Hello everyone,
as the title suggests I am interested in painting tyranids and I don't really know what colour I want to paint them. I was hoping you guys might know what some good colour schemes are, and if you could possibly post a picture that would be even better.

Look up nature pics of bugs and insects, they always give Nids great inspiration.

I'm quite happy with my own theme.

I've been struggling with the same thing for my hive fleet. Its hard to paint nids well. I think I'm going to try a black/rainbow tinted shell (think beetle) with tan skin and purple for the spot color.

I'm really happy with how my nids are turning out.

I followed StrikingScorpion82's tutorial on youtube adapting it a bit.

One of my favourite colour combos for nids or vampires is the Spawn look. White bone, black flesh and deep red carapace for nids. No pics right now though.

I've always been more of a narrative player myself, so my first preference is always Hive Fleet Leviathan, followed closely by Kraken.... Even though I know this concept isn't a very popular one.

I prefer the more toned down color schemes for nids with brighter highlights to make them pop. My own scheme (in y blog in my sig) is bone carapace, black "skin" and blue/brown highlights for weapons, mouths, wings and soft areas.

The blue being the part that will help it all stand out.

If I had a decent camera (or even a cellphone) I'd post some pics of my nids.
Mine are a purple/gray (Daemonette purple, I think?) with purple carapaces. They look similar to the Leviathan paint scheme, but without the sillyness of their white and pink flesh.

It's interesting. I'd keep the carapace a single, solid color (personal preference), and I'd change the pure white into something off-white perhaps a bone color.

I'm fond of my personal scheme which can be achieved mostly through washes over a white base coat:

The scheme you've chosen looks fairly unique but white is a bugger to get looking smooth (IMHO) and you'll be painting a lot of it if it's your main skin colour. Good luck! Be sure to share some pics when you finally decide!

I love the existing back-story of Tyranids so I have both Behemoth and Leviathan. And GW's tutorials are pretty informative.

Decide what your hive fleet has gotten themselves into before. what mutations would they favor, what shenanigans would have prompted them?

I had nids that were stone skinned, lots of astro granite and pots of grey paint. ive seen some coold lava nids

First off, this isn't my work.
All credit goes to an extremely talented painter called Ben Evans. His whole army is in this scheme. I'm not really a fan of nids, but his look amazing
