Hey guys. I have been interested in fantasy and 40k lore and games plus I personally have always liked games like them and played plenty of board games as a kid and a adult and also like battletech but besides that i want to get into orks or space/chaos marines ive actually been using pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters to represent troops and using other objects to represent vehicles. I dont have the 7ed rules but i do my best with basic rules, I have with a starter that came from a starter set and is a small basic rule book I got from a friend and am determined to eventually get rule book, codex, and models. I have the dice and templates but anyway thank you for reading this and look forward to being apart of these forums

Hello and welcome!

If you aren't sure between Orks or Space marines it might be a good idea to get the old starter set 'Assault on Black Reach'. You can buy it quite cheap on ebay.
You will get both armies, around 500 points each, so you are able to play by youself or even with others.

As for basic rules check YouTube for How to play videos (for exampale http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X08TrOlR5qY&list=PLO7eeI6ViS9NnzddnDglpMzpZE3d2EMJi).

I hope this helps.
Good luck!

Marines are easier/cheaper to start with than Space Marines.

Thanks guys for welcoming me @KaptinBadrukk, itsthemarine, Byte.

@KapitanBadrukk - I don't have the models yet so I'm still weighing my options, cost & play style, I'm considering Orks & chaos/marines cause I find them interesting but in saying that I find all the races interesting and I like their back stories I just want to field a army I find that suits me.
What about you? What army or armies do you field?

@itsthemarine - Thanks and that's cool man What group do you field or thinking about?

@Byte - Thanks man and do you play space wolves? I'm just assuming from your name and all.

@everyone - hey just letting you guys know I'm adding you to friends so when this hobby really takes off I can always discuss either rules or tactics or hell anything in general but I do really appreciate all the welcomes I'm receiving. I've been on a few other game forums but this one seems to be very open to newcomers and that's awesome for me.

As for points and equipment and so on I use Army List Creator ( http://www.battlescribe.net ) Eventually, you will need codex but at the beginning it works.

I’m an Orks player. And must say it is the funniest army for a not very competitive player who likes more fun and friendly games than glory of victory. Additionally, it allows you to convert everything (including other races' vehicles) into Orks' war machines. A good example is this guy’s masterpieces http://www.youtube.com/channel/UCnKDL80FrdPcHOR5OcHl5Ew

However, I agree with what AnomanderRake said about Space/Chaos Marines. These armies are cheaper, easier and more competitive.

GW has no chance of lowering prices.

Welcome. I noticed you're from the US. If you're looking for cheaper models, check out The War Store and email them about getting an availability list. All their GW products are 20% off.

@kaptinBadrukk - yeah I looked and holy hell the prices are bad at times but then I guess its a bit of a niche market is understandable but still they could offer more incentives or just random giveaways to help bolster not only loyalty but grow their
market.
But anyway I'll look into that bundle and see if I can save up.

@Ignatius - Thanks man thats gonna help a bunch every friggin penny you can save on these models is gold to me

@Knightley - Thanks man I appreciate it I have to say so far this is probably been the friendliest if not the best forums I've been on in a long while
