They don't cost many points, that's a plus. If you have locator beacons, you could try precision deep strikes. If for whatever reason you are putting them in a LR, you can burn before assaulting. Wall of death before you get charged?

Generally I agree that they are the worst of the weapon options. Not quite useless, but not as good as the other options.

Heavy flamers remain the leading cause of death for my SM scouts. They are not bad weapons. But terminators are not the best platform for them.

Sometimes you can DS down and burn the life out of some camped ruins though. Fun when it happens.

There's a couple of options. Keep in mind, though, Tactical Terminators suck. This is just a few ways to make this wanted loadout suck less. Keep in mind, as well, most will want to be deep struck. So 1-2 Teleport Homers are needed.
1. Fire Hawks Chapter Tactics give it +1S after Deep Strike. Cool beans.
2. Salamanders or Star Phantoms for TL goodness.

That's about all off the top of my head to be honest.

These work great for my SW army. While storm bolters and assault cannons are nice to have, a good heavy flamer will melt hordes you want to put your wolf claws or TH/SS into. As well as d3 overwatch makes it a little harder for them to get in. Eldar, D elder, Tau, Guard, Orks, nidlings, and scouts get krumped by it. Why not use it? its pretty situational but dropping that heavy flamer behind a storm lord, or trukk and melting like 40 dudes with one template is super nice!

Its low profile, and cheap as well. No one worries about the Heavy Flamer till they get ganked by one

something terminators fear is being tarpitted by disposable light infantry. the heavy flamer turns blobs into roast chicken while CML and Assaultcannon are more of a one trick pony

People are hating on heavy flamers now? Huh. Personally I've had a lot of success with Heavy Flamers in my terminator squads.

If you're playing Dark Angels, stick Belial in the unit for that unerring Deep Strike. Twin-linked the turn you deep strike in for those lovely reroll failed wounds + Split Fire in case you want the rest of your squad firing at something else = good times.

There's a lot of armies that's pretty brutal against. Anyone not in 3+ armor is essentially dead. Pretty useful for clearing GEQ sitting behind an Aegis Defense Line, a way to obliterate a Dark Eldar transport and entire squad inside, and it helps score a boatload of hits against squads deployed inside buildings.

Additionally, don't underestimate that Wall of Death. If you're teleporting in, good chance you are being assaulted if they've got the kinds of units to attempt such things. It helps as a counter measure.

For non-DA, you just have to make sure you've got teleport homers on your initial wave of Drop Pods and you're solid.

Personally I think Heavy Flamers are the only heavy weapon option that actually makes sense on Tactical Terminators. They're just not a shooty unit, despite having access to CML and AC. Every guy having a power fist, a 25 point melee weapon, suggests they should probably go punch some things. 2+ armor is also more useful in close combat than it is vs. shooting. The HF at least fits the melee mentality both offensively and defensively.

Heavy flamers are versatile whilst CML and assault cannons are one trick ponies? Is this opposite land?

Personally only DA really make heavy flamers worthwhile, as you can take one with a CF and put him in an assault terminator squad, giving the squad more utility. Having shooty terminators with a heavy flamer is a waste imo.

Wolf guard might work ok with a heavy flamer, but they already have counter attack (and potentially WS5 due to fenris), making blobs less of a problem than they are for other terminators.
