Subject: Thoughts after playing my first two games of M2E.

Last Friday my neighbor and I took the plunge into Malifaux after picking up some discounted crews and the appropriate arsenal deck to bring the models up to date. Our first game went pretty slow because we had to reference the rulebook quite a bit. Our second game went much quicker, and we both discovered that we love the system. There were a few things we couldn't figure out though.
If Bad Juju becomes unburied, does he get to activate normally?
And, I have playing as Perdita, but I struggle to complete schemes and strategies (not sure if it helps that my opponent used Silurids), it just seems my crew is slow. Any help would be great.

The Ortegas are pretty slow, yeah. I think you'll need to go or of the family to change that, but I don't know enough about Guild to recommend anything other than Lone Rider and austringer.
As for burying/unburying, yes. If Bad Juju has not already activated, he'll get to do so without any restrictions. Only summoned models are effected by slow and being unable to interact.

Hmm, well I will have to try out my Ophelia or Lilith crew next time. I still had fun though, but because of the Schemes we flipped it felt like a constant uphill battle because I could not kill his scheme marker runners fast enough or be fast enough to even attempt to do most of the schemes.
Thank you for the information about unbury though, I can't remember if we messed that up or not.

I thought that the Family was pretty fast. Maybe not as fast as Neverborn, but Perdita has Obey, Enslaved Nephilim is all about providing them with mobility, and Hermanos de Arma all serve to boost their speed.
As well, Francisco has a teleport, Abuela has multiple pushes and free walks, and Nino advance deploys.
While they might not be //blazing// quick, I wouldn't say that they were "pretty slow" either.
Just my 2 ss though.

This is where a slightly larger pool of models comes in handy, since you pick your list after you flip schemes. That way you tailor your list to completing your schemes rahter than trying to stop your opponent completing theirs. If you have a more limited pool of models, you might find some schemes are difficult to accomplish.

Quick question for you guys on vatage points, cover and line of sight.
Here is a rough drawing of what we ran into. Perdita moved to what i thought was line of sight to the Silurid and was about to take a shot, my friend however said that because he was elevated the 1" raised edge around the building was blocking my LOS and that when mmeasuring for cover we would use the total height of the building and not that raised edge. Would I have had line of sight?

Okay, that is good to know. That's what I figured, but we weren't 100% sure because of how it is worded in the book.

As for Perdita having trouble with schemes, I've found that tends to be a weakness across the guild in general. You get more murder power than pretty much everyone, but sacrifice some flexibility in the process. Common parlance in the community dubs some models "scheme runners," typically fast, cheap models that can run to the flanks and drop markers for line, breakthrough, power ritual, or anything of the like.
Try bringing some witchlings or death marshals to round out your force, the witchlings give you condition removal, and the death marshals are just plain old great for their SS cost.

or guild hounds in pairs they are significant and fast as anything. Lone marshal will smash most scheme runners and have plenty of movement available to get around the board and drop scheme markers turn 4/5

I'd prefer a DM to hounds, since a DM is generally tougher vs. pot shots and has a gun so if it's done or otherwise not in position, a ranged attack is way more flexible than a melee attack, and I don't find myself putting out a ton of scheme markers (and the DM puts down another one on death).
Hounds are really fast, but I prefer them when using the schemes as charge beacons and having them follow up in centralized schemes for cheap charges, rather than using them to do much of the scheme running themselves.

Well, I am going to drop Trigger finger off of Santiago, because in three games I haven't even had a chance to use it. And try putting Hermanos de Armas on Francisco to get an extra push in the crew for a bit more mobility.
Hah, I would love to get me some Guild Hounds, but those bugger's are incredibly hard to find right now. Heck, a lot of the things I want are insanely hard to get right now... Dead Doxies, a second Coryphee set for the duet, the pewter Nekima... Ugh! Wish I would have gotten in sooner. Automatically Appended Next Post: But, I really want to keep the Ortega Family theme and really try to just play Family models. I did find that with careful activation they really can scoot across the board though.

Well, I tried Ophelia and her gang today for my second 50ss game. They are quite a bit different playing than the Ortegas, a real hoot. I played against a McMourning crew, and it was a very righteous beatdown the little green tide gave them.
Our Strategy was Recconoiter, we seem to get that one a lot.
The Schemes I picked was Line in the Sand and Assassinate.
Sacked McMourning turn three, and by the end of turn three he was down to four models against ten Gremlins. Found out that the Young Lacroix using "My Threatenin' Gun" is absolutely brutal. Final score was 6VP Gremlins 1VP Ressurrectionists.
