Will the wave 1 star destroyer pack, corvette, and nebulian ships have different crew cards compared to the starter ones?

Yes, FFG has listed what you get with the expansions on there website.

Here's the link to the articles on the expansion ships

Empire

Oh ok cool thanks for the links I completely missed those.

If you want to get that VSD, clear out all the TIEs. You need to start wrapping around it as said earlier and maybe have an X-Wing or squadron left to hurt it.

In the last two days, out of all of the games the group I have been with played, only one VSD was outright destroyed.

They will. They already have dice and move tool packs coming.

The problem is that everything got delayed due to the dock worker strike.

I have 2 core sets, and I kind of regret it, but also not.

At 300 points, 2 core sets actually buts right up against that value in ships and squadrons. However, that's at the cost of having few upgrades put on those ships, and fewer choice.

So, if you planned to run spammy lists, it's not a bad way to go. But on the FFG website, the example lists they have usually put a good number of upgrades on each ship, along with using more character squadrons. Considering that each ship is pretty survivable compared to X-Wing, those upgrades will be put to good use in most games.

The official point value is going to be 400 points once wave 2 releases. Which makes 2 core sets more viable in terms of ships, but also means that if you buy a single expansion pack of the same ship for the cards, you're pretty much maxed out on ships, and only 1 expansion pack worth of upgrade cards.

The solution for me is that I don't play official tournaments, so I will be copying and printing every card that I need. I won't chase cards like FFG wants.

What size board is it for a 300 point game?I can't find it anywhere in the rulebooks.

Its not in the rules, but a 6 x 3 is great for a 300 point game. We did a few of those, as a lot of us got two core sets, and were was enough room to do what you want. You will want a 6x3 because the next stuff coming moves faster.

Found it. It's 6x3 in the back of the rules for setting up a regular game.

Yes, just did this morning. Actually more info in there than the first booklet. But it looks like the first booklet gets you into the basics, the reference book gives you all the other cool stuff.

So glad to hear that!

I can't wait to get my copy.

Additionally, I can't help but read all the VSD commentary here and thing of STDs.

Are you not a fan of X-wing? Personally, I love both but these are definitely two different animals. This weekend, my friends and I are playing again only this time we'll have two cores (instead of just mine) so we'll be able to play at 300 points and on a larger board.

Also, lol.

What is everyone getting through Core + Wave 1?

I figure I'll get two core sets, 1 of each additional large ship (at first) and 2 of each fighter pack.

What say the rest of you?
For now, I'm sticking with Rebels so I'll be getting one of each of the single ships and the fighter pack. Though, knowing me, I'll probably end up getting everything...

Is there any point to getting two starters?

From what I've gathered its only worth getting if you want to get a full point list until wave 1 is released.

Otherwise it isn't worth due to the lack of upgrades and commander variety.

So unless you want to sink in another $100-$150 bucks I'd say just get the one.

Alternatively you could look at getting separate ships out of box online (Ebay).

Its worth it for the second set of rulers and dice, as well as helping you build up x-wings and tie fighters (which are probably going to be your primary squadrons). Yes you will still have to buy at least one of each blister for a complete set but its still a good deal (esp. at 40% off).

My plan is 2 starters + 1 each VSD, CR90, Neb B, 2 Gladiators, 2 Frigates, 2 fighter blisters each. That should give me the flexibility to run just about any build until wave 2 rolls out. (at which point i anticipate 1 each mc80 and ISD, 2 each imp raider and mc30)

Got a couple games in today and I have to say I love how fast the rebel ships are. Can't wait for wave 1 so I can start tinkering with list ideas.

Oh no, I love X-Wing. Just glad that there's enough difference between them that they "feel" properly different.

Like every other nerdy fanboy on here, I of course have grand delusions of having an X-Wing table and an Armada table set up side by side and to have all dogfighting amongst squadrons resolve in full games of X-Wing.

Oh..Oh that I had the time!.

Yeah, you definitely needn't worry about Armada and X-Wing feeling the same.

My friends and I talked about the same thing but we also discussed adding in an Imperial Assault skirmish map next to the X-Wing table next to the Armada table... because, you know, why not?

Hey, you could do ship boarding actions with Imperial Assault... and hope for a mass battle game for ground assaults....

We played a game last night. The games you play now, with the boxed set, vs the ones with the new ships will be TOTALLY different. I looked at this box set like the birth of the rebellion. fast attack, duck and weave stuff, can't go toe to toe but can still jab. When that Assault Frigate hits with the new fighters, it will alter the play experience.

Look at the X-Wing rule for 'escort'... that's made to bring Y-Wings to the Star Destroyers..

Played my first game yesterday. It was a blast.
My opponent was a rightful democratically elected government, and I was insurgent scum.

Both my Frigate and Corvette tried to loop around an asteroid, using it for cover to bombard the VSD's flanks as it approached. Tie Fighters were engaging the x-Wings, while two went to harass the corvette.

Massed AA fire from the Frigate and the X-Wings knocked out most of the TIEs, but a snap maneuver through the rocks brought the VSD into forward battery range of the Nebulon. First volley smashed through it's shields, crippling the engines and starting deck fires. Second volley blew it up, despite attempts to brace for the damage.

Corvette used this time to get behind the VSD and unloaded into it's poorly shielded rear quarter, disabling it's maneuvering while it was in the Asteroid zone with the help of the X-Wings. But because the Corvette was going so fast and desperately trying to decellerate, it swing back up into the front of the VSD's firing arc!

VSD cripples the corvette, knocking it down to one hull point and sapping all facing shields. Desperate, the X-Wings attack again, knocking out the bridge.

Next turn, the Corvette is forced to ram the VSD, destroying both.

End result: Tie

sounds like you faired better against the VSD than most. Thus far every time Ive seen either of the rebel ships get within range 1 of the VSD, the VSD removed said ship in a single volley.

BTW is anyone else annoyed at the differences between versions of the ships (or lack thereof)? It wouldve been nice if the Victory/CR90 were more like the Nebulon B and the difference was more than just a change in primary armament, wouldve like greater variation in squadron defenses/squadron value and possibly other stats as well.

Looking forward to wave 1 in any case, though I dont think the assault frigate will be able to really go toe to toe with the VSD

I doesn't seem like much now, but the difference will be more noticeable when there are more upgrade cards to go around and points will be more of a priority.

An option for Ion Cannons is pretty huge of a difference. Those things are nasty, particularly for Rebels using an Overload Pulse as it sets up a second ship's attacks to be much more effective.
