So I heard someone who I might be playing soon has always measured range for shooting from the tip of the weapon.

I've always measured it from the base of a model (vehicles aside since they say fire from the vehicle's weapon).

What's the correct way to fire weapons for other units (such as MC, Infantry, etc). It seems to me you could pose (e.g. a Riptide) to be leaning forward and be modelling for advantage if you fire from the weapon base..

A reference would be great to have too, thanks

Measure from base to base, unless a vehicle basically

Base to base seems has always been my go to, but it is likely to be problematic with the "optional" 32mm bases flying around now, and those can result is some tweaked advantages until they become more clarified

Base to base, unless vehicles. 32mm has no real affect on this.

There's a section right at the front of the rulebook on measuring distances.

If it's a Walker mounted on a base, you'd also measure base to base. Just sayin'

No, you wouldn't.

Walkers measure weapon ranges from their weapons, like every other vehicle.

They just use the base (if they have one) for other measurement.

Oh wow. Brain lapse. I totally knew that. I had movement on the mind and I was just reading the Walker rules. My bad!

You still start the same measured distance from your opponent, you still move the same distance, you're still able to shoot and be shot in the exact same way as with the smaller bases..... when is the measuring different? The only differences are with how many fall under a blast template and how small of an area they can DS into, when would the size of the base affect anything to do with shooting distance? It's not like it lets you shoot your opponent a turn sooner or something like that.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
As for OP, you always measure from the base (unless you're dealing with vehicles). Otherwise I wouldn't make models with bolters hanging at their side or against their chest!

You will also have a difference when shooting out to the sides or behind... Two models with different sized bases moving directly forwards the same distance will wind up with their front edges in the same place, but the rest of the base on the larger one will be further away, so that gives you a slight bonus when shooting in any direction other than directly forwards.

Of course, that also works the same for shots coming back at your model, and really, for the difference between the 25mm and 32mm base, the effect is negligible.
