Because I hate the Morkanauts base because its a pain in the ass and I don't want to glue my model to it, is their a rule that states IT HAS to have the base? every game so far i just ask my opponent and they have been fine with me playing without it.

yes. models should be represented on the bases they are provided with or a suitable substitute for said base.

so translation, GW sucks and needs to get rid of bases for large walkers. :-P Automatically Appended Next Post: at least large walkers that don't tumble over for no apparent reason.

For tournaments and the like, yes, either the base it comes with or one of equivalent size, but in casual games, because it is so large, I'd say ask your opponent. If he's cool with it, rock on.

Yup, thats what I do, granted Im slowly bringing my Morkanaut less and less because it sucks and people don't even waste shots on it anymore. Battlewagon/loota combo is my new Heavy support choice :-P

This has been a pretty common point of debate of late. RaW is extremely vague.
The rules assume that you've based the model using the base it was supplied with. The rules further say that in instances where a model has no base or is based on an unusual base that you should feel free to re-base it using other models of a similar type as a guideline for selecting the base size.
Ultimately, while the rules assume that you're using the supplied base, they don't seem to strictly require it. However, you should realize that for non-Vehicles, the rules break down very quickly when there is no base.
For something like a (M/G)orkanaught, you'll still need to ask your opponent, but I can't see there being an issue. If a player or tournament has a base requirement, just put magnets in the bottoms of the feet and magnetize the model to a blank 120mm oval base. Problem solved.
I would have zero issue playing you without the base.

Thank you kriswall, also to clarify, When i play with my morkanaut I play that his hull meaning legs and torso are the model itself for measurement purposes, I dont count arms so i dont get that extra half inch charge range and vice verse they dont get to count my base as me...which for a vehicle is a bit confusing....

Just so we're clear Ghaz, you're really making your Morkanaut less useful at the same time since he's only taken for his kff which extends from his base... And if you're measuring from the model... That's far less surface area... But if you asked me, I'd let you do whatever. Rules as written... Base required.

Technically anything you have nearby to soak up that extra save can move closer to the hull since now the base is out of the way for them. In other words, reverse your thinking and then it is a null point

Hmm geometry... So if I have a Four inch square (a Morkanaut) oh the table. Measuring out from him in all directions 6" gives me a circle'ish shape that has a diameter of 16" so a radius of 8" squared times pi = 200.96 subtract the original 16" worth that the Morkanaut takes up and we have 185~.
Now lets put a base on him that is 7" wide and 5"tall. I'm at work so I'm doing estimates, though they will show the same thing in a moment. That gives us an ellipsis or oval with a 17" by 19" using its equation to find the area it's 8.5x9.5x3.14=253.7-27=226.55~ (27 being what the Morkanaut base takes up in our approx base size)
So as you see having a smaller size means your 6" out from you is smaller. In the simplify easy I can say it buddy.

Yep. Considering in this case (I always found vehicles on bases weird), having a larger means more guys without having to move the other guys closer.

Sorry for all the auto corrected words in my post. I hate when it does that. But as you can see, without a base Ghaz, your morkanaut loses all kinds of possible models within 6" so I can't see someone complaining about it.

Have you tried using magnets on the feet and underside of the base? I've done that with my nagash model so I can transport him easier and do different style of bases for him when i get to it

It's easy to assume that people arguing an interpretation you disagree with are just looking for an advantage for themselves... But it's quite often not the case. |

No, Im hording my limited resources for more Mek Gunz and boyz to make the green tide, spending that much money on magnets isn't possible right now.

Go to an Arts and Crafts store. Magnets aren't expensive. Or go to a dollar store and find something with magnets that you can break apart. You should be able to magnetize a Morkanaught (or maybe Gorkanaught) to a base for less than it costs to get a value meal at McD's.

The good magnets that hold that much weight cost around $10 for like 6 here ive looked :-P

Gravity is doing all the work for you. Your connection point is in the bottom of your model's feet. You don't need strong magnets. You just need enough of a lock to keep the Orkanaught from sliding off the base. I've done this with other, similar models. It works fine. I've had very good luck with fridge magnets. They're a little thick, but you can mask them by gluing random bits of stuff around them (rocks and such).
