Hi Guys

Just thought I would post a couple of pics of my Krieg Command Squad. They are near enough finished (just missing the "143rd" transfers on their shoulder pads because I need to order more).

Anyway, hope you like em!

Company Command Squad

Colonel Schmidtt

More pics will come later.

Hot damn! They look real fine. Well done!

I really like the Colonel's base in particular.

Those look great! I love the gray uniforms, nice detail work too. I just can't get enough DKOK. I really want to buy a unit just to paint them.

Thanks guys, I really appreciate it!

I just got through painting 70 models in 2 months which is a record for me! 5 of those were terrain pieces, the rest were Krieg infantry and 9 Death Riders. We took pics on Sunday along with wifeys Tyranids. Now we just need to upload them!

Look quite good; lighter palettes work wonderfully with FW models; more of the subtle details show through, especially on their coats; I've often considered re-doing my Krieg in lighter tones much like what you've done here.

Therefore, I conclude, Valve should announce Half Life 2: Episode 3.

Thanks. Tbh the light greys on these guys came out lighter than usual. I think it's because I airbrushed the majority of my infantry but these guys I brushed the greys on. I chose to think that the CCS doesn't get as dirty as the rest of the army so their uniforms are that much lighter lol

Looking good! I, too, love the look of DKoK and agree that the lighter schemes often work much better than dark ones. My only gripe is the snow on the bases. It doesn't look bad, which is a sure sign of skillful application - the GW-style white static grass "snow flock" is a bit of a bugbear, for me. With as many models completed as you have, it's not worth trying to change now, but I'd heartily recommend switching to a granulated product, if you do another snow-based army in the future. With the amount of work/skill evidenced in these models, it'd be a shame to be held back by your materials!

Very nice indeed. The lighter greys work especially well. Reminds me muchly of modern German greatcoats. Stylish and scary.

Thanks mate. Interesting you say that about the snow materials - I tried the GW snow first on my Medusa and crew and really liked it. Then tried some Gale Force Nine granulated snow on the Trojan, but was disappointed. To me the granulated stuff is a little too coarse and ends up looking dirtier than I wanted (which is odd considering all my armies look dirty lol).

I know what you mean tho - up close it is easy to see the fibres in the GW snow, but from table top height it looks really good.

Thanks! Yeah I was going for the German style - well how couldn't you with way the models look?

I will post a pic of my Trojan at some point. I gave it the name "Esel" which, according to Google, is Ass in German

Can't argue with that - you tried both and stuck with the one you preferred.

Out of curiosity, though, how did you apply the granulated stuff? Paint on glue then dip in/sprinkle on the snow? This can lead to a "dirty" look, as the underlying ground color shows through the translucent PVA. That's great for slushy snow, but you need stronger coverage to achieve the opacity you want for fluffy, white snow - either undercoat the area in white, apply multiple layers sprinkled on, or mix up and spread a paste of snow flock and PVA (some even add a drop of white paint to the mix). I've gotten good results using simple baking soda by sprinkling it on dry, then hosing it down with a spray bottle filled with diluted matte medium (and a bit of flow-aid) to lock it in place.

Still, I completely understand your choice. If you ever wanted to give the granulated stuff another go, though, with a bit of extra effort it can be made to look just as good at a distance, while still holding up under close scrutiny. Just something to consider.

Oh, and the second batch of pictures look ace, as well!

Thanks mate!

The method I use is the FW master class method - cover the base in snow then blow it into desired position using an airbrush, then it's fixed in position with lacquer. That's the same method I used on the granulated stuff.

I used the PVA and GW snow paste technique on my Orks. It looks good and gives that icy-snow look when pasted over my black bases, but I prefer the way I do it now as it looks more natural. I never tried it with the granular snow tho!

I had heard of people using baking soda too but heard it yellows with age?

They all look amazing! I really love the krieg models really need to get me some, but the ones I want are out of stock.

Yeah they are all awesome. Which ones are out of stock? The squad at ease kit?

Yeah, thought that one looked the coolest, will have to wait until I've painted up all the stuff I found in the attic first anyway. Focus on getting that all finished before I can justify shelling out more cash. If I get it done and I'm happy, I will treat myself with these and some figures for my command squad.

Yeah they are re working some of the molds. I think they are working through them all because advancing and firing were out of stock independently of each other a few months back

Would make sense to do it that way rather than put a whole product line out of action all at once. Kudos to them for not building up an inferior stock base to tide them through the rework too.

The at ease models do look good, but I went with the advancing and firing models. Only have one of each so far, but they are all painted
