I want to build a custom Warboss, is it legal to put it on a killa kan size base without any in game penalty?

You can't fix stupid, but you sure as hell can kill it.

I am fairly certain the answer to this is NO.
Models are to be based on the base size they are supplied with (40mm base for the warboss, 60mm for those kanz)
Now people will still probably play against the warboss even if he is on the larger base (bonus points if it looks more awesome) but my suggestion would be to get some 1/16" x 1/32" or possibly 1/8" x 1/16" sized magnets, and use them on the warboss's feet. Then add the magnets to both of the base sizes as well so you can switch him between the two bases, one legal and one awesome

No resonable person should care if you go bigger, and it looks appropriate for the model. You would actually be modelling to your disadvantage.

Actually the answer is yes. It's always acceptable to go with a larger base just not smaller.

This reminds me, new standard space marines are coming on larger bases (at least the new blood angels did?)? I heard it was for scenic reasons? But imho that doesn't matter. Even though this is the painting forum, the effect on gameplay outweighs the scenic value , but i digress. So does this mean all other space marines need to be re-based to be legal or....? I cant see myself doing that. Hmm food for thought. Sorry for the hijack

I have 5k of imperial fists that are not going to be rebased. Forget that noise.

That was true back in 4th, but not anymore. I don't remember the exact rule, but essentially it states that models should be based on the bases that come with the model, but that if the model came on an unusual base or without a base, you can put it on a suitable base as fitting a similarly sized model.

That said, the number one arbiter is always going to be your gaming group. I personally would have no issue with it going on a 50mm base

If you use smaller bases than standard sized, it can be argues you are modelling for advantage.

If you using 32's instead of 25's, because they look better, you are modelling to your disadvantage.

There was a whole fething thread about this. GW's stance is use whatever ones you like better.

Basing Gretchin on 40mm baes would be ridiculous, for obvious reasons, but Orks, Marines, and Necrons all hang over the edges of 25mm bases, and look appropriate on 32mm bases.

Tons of models of larger-than-regular-human things like Space Marines and Orks look a ton better on 32MM bases because the guys actually fit on it.

I think some people might be upset if you went crazy (say, put a guy who's supposed to be on a 25mm on a 60mm), but a size or two is no big deal. Most players I've ever come across would rather play a guy who cares about his models to even want to base them on something more scenic than just a random dude at the hobby store.

I... actually don't know. Help?

For Orks, I'd say go with the bases provided, but with Nobz, bo 32mm bases. Fits them a lot.
