Subject: Cheapest place to get pre-cut or pick n pluck foam trays?

This would be to store my infantry. I could find a plastic case easy enough at the hardware store or walmart or whatever, so I am wondering where the best place to get foam inexpensively is. Foam that is all ready to go, or can be plucked (I can't spend hours cutting foam myself unfortunately, which I know is the cheapest option of them all not counting time and labor costs lol)

I get mine at a place called Alabama foam supply down the street. Try google, I'm not sure if they have a Web site or not.

I'm UK based, but have found the cheapest place has been by visiting my local foam suppliers. Maybe check around you see if you can find a supplier local to you?

Have you considered magnetic solution instead? Rather than foam get metal sheets you put to box and magnets instead. I find better than foam for protecting models. In particular more spindly or long shapes(spears and pikes etc) the model has. And I get sheet for 12 boxes for 20e plus 7e per box so about 105e for 12 box each holding about 60-70 32mm bases so 720+ models.

I agree with tneva82, magnetic trays/sheets are better IMO for infantry. I only use foam for vehicles.

eBay.
You can get enough to fill an old GW army case (6 trays) for about £15ish.

And even with vehicles there are some vehicles it works. Anything with base already fine. My DDA's are now with magnets. I even put one on triarch stalker as 15cm round fits pretty snuggly. Any rhino is easy to have magnets put to tracks so my sisters of battle have magnets on their vehicles as well.

I'm just thinking about my fragile Drukhari boats on their wobbly flight stands.....

Anything with a flying stand: The safest way to transport/pack it is to NOT glue the base to the model. Purely and simply.
That said, the first thing you should do is enlarge the mounting hole if it uses the flight peg with a little pin/nubbin (use a 3mm drill bit. It will sit 3-5mm lower on the peg, be more sturdy, and the entire mass of the vehicle won't be supported purely on 1mm3 of plastic (which WILL shear).
Those with ball jointed stands can be popped off the stands.

I’d put a magnet between the boat and the stand too. Then when storing stick the boat and the stand to the metal plate separately.

Funnily enough, I've been doing that this week...4mm magnets seem to work great
