so, I am looking into starting a Imperial gua..... Sorry, Astra Millitarum army, and was looking at the models and immediately fell in love with the vostroyan models. But you are REALLY limeted with what you could take, only lascannon teams, and only plasma in guard squads. Is there anyway whatsoever to get over this or is it better to go for Cadian models

oh never mind, you can also take flamers and a heavy bolter team

You can of course convert Vostroyan models to have other weapons like meltaguns or Autocannon HWTs.

It's just gonna be a pain in the bum trying to cut them up since they're metal models.

Well the Catachans have the advantage of being in plastic. They do however suffer from being quite awful sculpts.

If you love the Vostroyans, get Vostoryans. It's not much more effort to razor-saw metal than it is plastic, and you'll have something you actually care about, not to mention pretty unique.

If you feel Catachans are boring: You'll be bored.

I have lascannon, autogun, and mortar team vostroyans. Also plasma gunners, grenade launchers, and flame throwers. There are three different sergeants. They exist but they're getting more rare. Keep an eye on ebay.

I'm actually a fan of the Catachan sculpts. They're over-the-top. every Catachan is Rambo.

They arent the same, but these guys are some alternate Vostroyan/Praetorian/Mordian Guard.

Plastic, more options and posing, but not the level or clutter GW models have.

If you are still interested.

I have a Vostroyan force.

It's grown since that picture was taken, more tanks and a few more infantry as well.

The Vostroyans have a fairly complete range of weapon options.

Special Weapons: Sniper Rifle, Flamer, Plasma and Grenade Launcher.
The only two weapons not specifically made are the Meltagun, which is an exceedingly easy conversion using the Flamer model, and the Heavy Flamer, which can also be converted with more work from the Flamer model.

As you can see, it's quite literally a barrel swap to produce a Meltagun that looks quite good in my opinion.

Heavy Weapons, are a little more limited, having only the Mortar, the Lascannon, and Heavy Bolter teams to work with. That leaves the Missile Launcher and Autocannon out of the current range. That said, you can VERY easily swap out the Lascannon for a plastic Autocannon from a heavy weapon team box with zero issue. The kneeling vostroyan lascannon gunner marries almost flawlessly into the plastic autocannon. The only weapon you'd have a hard time with would be the Missile Launcher, and even then it wouldn't be impossible to convert something up with a little effort.

So that said, if you like the Vostroyans, go for it.

Hope that helps.

Take it easy,

You don't know me son, so I'll explain this to you once: If I ever kill you, you'll be awake, you'll be facing me, and you'll be armed.

Vostroyan infantry squads come with 1x flamer 1x HB, which you should convert to a Lascannon using spare sponson/turret Lascannons you have lying around. That's pretty much the best thing you could want for building a blob squad, just add priest/commissar to your liking.

Additionally the command squad has a grenade launcher model, there is a plasma gunner and Lascannon team separate, several sergeants with various gear and such. GW sells a pack of melta guns that actually aren't an absurd price, those should be easy to swap for anyone who's got a lasgun that requires sticking on his arms or one that's sticking out (see the radioman for instance).

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"

"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"

"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"

"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!"

ya, if I did IG, it would be DKOK, a freind plays elysian, and they just kinda look silly IMO, far to frail (ya, I know, its realistic and the such) but they are still trained soldiers and would have decent posture
