Or that quality. Dont get me wrong Martin has a fine enough imagination, but the 'American Tolkien' hype is exactly that, hype.

Really looking forward to this, the books are very well done.
Trailer looks promising, although what is certain that the visual spectacle of a shield wall will not be able to come close to the image that the book manages to create in your imagination !

Never read a Cornwell book I've not thoroughly enjoyed, with the possible exception of some of the Sharpe Novels he wrote after the TV series aired and he towards the end he was desperately trying to find events in the Napoleonic Wars he could find convoluted reasons for Sharpe to be present at. But even they where perfectly readable.
The Last Kingdom series of books is brilliant and I'm very much looking forward to this.

The shield wall looks a bit unhistorical. I don't see how you would manage to stack them three high or why you would bother when Saxon and Viking armies were relatively skimpy on archery.

So...2 episodes have aired so far.
Its a reasonably enjoyable show, though it's got nothing on Vikings.
But feth me, this is a fething awful adaptation of the books.

I am really fascinated about this period of history.
But I can't say I like this show. It's very interesting and I like the bits of history they do show, but there are a few inaccuracies.
But the biggest problem I have with the show is that I don't like any of the characters.
The main guy is kind of dumb and doesn't really believe in anything and just kind of goes around reacting poorly to situations that fall upon him, usually because of his own stupidity. If you have a character like that, you better make him really charming.
And his girlfriend has the personality of a stone.

I have been watching this show, along with the FX show, "Bastard Executioner"
Thus far, I'm of the opinion that Last Kingdom is a bit better than Executioner is. We're 5 or 6 or whatever episodes in on Executioner, and just this last episode FINALLY got some good stuff going on. There was just a feth ton of "set up" being done.
At least with Last Kingdom, they kinda just jump into the story and let us figure some stuff out. Though I agree with some guys here.... the main character and his GF are kinda, meh.

I rather enjoyed this series - I just finished catching up on Season 1.
It deviates quite a bit from the books in certain key areas, but overall stays 'true'.
Any word on whether or not it is getting a second season?

Yeah I liked it.
The Final Battle could have been longer and that bit where Alfred spotted the clearly CGI was a bit ropey. The end of it seemed very rushed but other wise quite enjoyable.
I look forward to series 2.

Yeah, it was quite rushed at the end, but for series 2, it needs something to improve it. It needs Scots
Overall, it was a half decent watch. Very enjoyable.

Pretty sure it was a small silver or gold cross gifted to him by Aethelflaed or someone else who bade him to keep it with him always, NOT a Thors Hammer. He wears Thors Hammer on his neck openly, he does not hide his paganism.
The cross was an addition at a later date IIRC, not when it was first made.
