I think it's funny that folks are already trying to figure out how to squeeze Skitarii Vanguard Plasmas into Pods when MT Scions can already do it with much less hassle.

Granted MT have fewer Plasma Shots and won't have Inertial Guidance but they'll be cheaper without the 'allied tax' that Vanguards will incur.
Drop Pods are much more accurate/safe in terms of DS'ing plus you get an AV12 scoring tower, the Skitarii are individually cheaper and more effective, and you can get more than double the number of plasma shots from a full Skitarii unit that you can from a Scion unit. More expensive yes, but you get a whole lot more for that investment than you do out of a similar investment in just Scions unfortunately :(

Given that their Force Org is just 2 Troops min, you can just take the two Skitarii units and put them in drop pods and be done with it.

And that's not counting the BS5-7 they can get from Doctrina Imperative the turn they come in. Scions are good, but they really need orders to make the most of their weapons.

On moon miranda.

Yeah, sporting BS7 with up to 9 Plasma shots is incredible.

The correct pronunciation is Imperial Guard and Stormtroopers, "Astra Militarum" and "Tempestus Scions" are something you'll find at Hogwarts.

Skitarii still require 2 SM Troops, 1 SM HQ, 2 FA DP 'tax'.

Edit - keep in mind, I'm not saying Skitarii aren't good, I'm just saying if you want to DS Suicide Plasma, MT can do it cheap and easy.

Oh, I was assuming you'd just take Skitarii as allies to the SM's

This is true. The MTC from Scions come in handy when dealing with terrain and making less of a footprint without needing a transport. If they had kept the special operations from the last book they would definitely make more of an appearance as deep-strike suicide squads.

It is highly amusing to think about a creating a mass Deep Strike list of Scions.

Even if you go by the ITC rules of 2 Detachments, 1 CAD only, and can ally with self, that's 12 Deep Striking units + whatever vehicles are brought via FA or Dedicated Transports.

Not good, but amusing.

No one has mentioned the Inquisition. I happened to get my hands on some old metal Stormtrooper models (the version before the Kasrkin model) to use as Acolytes for my Inq army, and I realized that I ended up with enough models to put together an MT force, so I picked up enough more models, Taurox Prmes, and Valkyries to field either the Ground Assault or Airborne Assault formation. I've had games in which I run a shooty (Inq, Plasma Servitors, Jokero) and stabby (Inq, LRC, Crusaders, DCA, Priests, etc.) Inq primary with an Airborne Assault secondary. It's not completely competetive, but it sure is fun. I run the Valkyries with Las, HB, and missle pods (at my FLGS, the Ordnance missles render everything else as snapfire regardless of when in the pahse they are fired, so it is a useless weapon for AA), I max out the squad size, and (due to the models I have) I run units with 2 x double plas, 1 x double grenade, and a command squad of four melta. The shooty Inq unit fires on far targets, the stabby Inq units jumps on whoever they can, and the MT drop on objectives and behind hard targets, the Valkeries zip around mopping up everything else. I think they mesh well together, but, like I said, not entirely competitive. Maybe that's just my own shortcomings.

I didn't expect the (Spanish) Inquisition.

It does okay - dependent on how well you read the emperors tarot and the scatter dice offerings being up to scratch of course.

But with 105 of them, some are going to land properly!
