Hey guys, I was pondering about how do use anti tank with a swarm like tyranid army and i was just wonder how you guys would do it. Lets say you get the "Swarm Box" and the "Wrath of the Hive mind box". These are two boxes that are good things to buy to start a tyranid army but when looking at it i can see that there is a lack of anti tank (there is some there but not enough is they have heavy armor) and unless you use a flyrant there is only the flyrant for good anti air so i was wondering how you guys would expand from this.

My solution:
Hive Crone or another Flyrant?
Carnifexs?
Drop in tyrannofex with the thorax weapon?

Well the "best" anti tank answers are Electro Grubs (Haywire Template), and Carnifexen. S9 and a D3 HOW can seriously mess up most anything. After that...crickets.

Vector strikes can be useful, and Crones have Haywire missiles, so that can work well.

The will of the hive is always the same: HUNGER

The answer with nids is always another flyrant. Just keep taking flyrants until either the rules/comp stop you or you feel really bad about it.

Flyrant can't hurt land raider.. 14/14/14 armour. Until melee flyrant with haywire.. It just will do.

Flyrants have haywire flamers if they take Egrubs (a rather standard loadout) that will deal with a landraider.

AT options
Zoanthropes in Pod
Carnifexes (regular are good, Stonewrecker are best AT)
Devourers w/ Brainleech Worms
Dimachaeron (7 S8 attacks on the charge is good, model is iffy though)
EGrubs
MC Smash
Rupture Cannon (haha don't take this).

If your gaming group allows it then any of the Gargantuans will easily pop vehicles, except maybe the Scythed version (unless in combat).

Zoans= psy test. Roll to hit. Roll to pen short range.
e grubs= 1 hull point per hit (as long as no 1s) unless a pen close range and not enough of them.
devouers= good upto av12(just)
carnies= getting there
dimachon= dont know this but seems cc so getting there
mc smash= getting there and only 1 attack.
heavy venom cannon ranged but only ap4

unfortunatly nids have trouble with armour i find rending works but av13/14 becomes a real problem. Our only real at is gargantuan creatures.

Agreed - I don't even count Zoans as AT. I've run them any number of times and never actually seen them jump through all the hoops necessary to destroy a vehicle - particularly given their short range. They are fine for a cheap synapse peg and WC battery, but that's really it. The best Nid anti-tank option is e-grubs on a flyrant, but it isn't very effective against models with a lot of HPs. Anything AV12 or less can be handled reasonably well with shooting, but for AV13/14 you are really relying on just e-grubs and cc to get the job done. The only saving grace is that most things that are AV13+ (barring land raiders) have at least one facing that is <AV13, so you can try to box them in and hit them from multiple angles.

Hive Crones can help a lot, too, as they have those haywire missiles (tentaclids) and the S8 vector strike. I consider the flamer to be the crone's "main weapon," but it can do double-duty as AT should the need arise.>

Or stick with egrub on tyrant and have toxicrene stand by in out of Los. Once got damage 1HP on vehicles then leash toxicrene and spilt chocking cloud?

It's strength 3. Not a reliable strategy except against AV10 vehicles (where regular shooting will do fine).

To add one more item to the list, both Gargoyles and/or Hormagaunts with Adrenal Glands are fairly capable of glancing rear armor 10 vehicles to death and both have the speed needed to make it into combat.

Cant believe no one has mentioned Hive Guard yet. Yeah, only 24", but 2 shot S8 and ignores cover without even requiring LoS is insanely good. A unit of 3 can do 3 hits, which is 1.5 hull points on a wave serpent with holofields per turn.

While purely anecdotal, I have had good luck with Zoanthropes.

My last two games against Necrons saw a Doomsday Ark and Monolith taken down.

Game 1 - down to one thrope in two broods, both cast Warp Lance, both hit, one fails to do anything, the other pens and blows it up.
Game 2, Monolith deep strikes, scattering into terrain and immobilizing itself. Brood of three fire Warp Lance. 3 Pens, 1 exploded 'lith.

Again purely anecdotal.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

I find the Rupture cannon particularly hilarious as its 2 shots at S10 for BS3 while CSM players get 8 shots at S8 for BS3 as well for similar points cost with the Forgefiend.
