Good morning everyone
I would like to know... Do you all think that all the core units and some of the special and rare units will stay and some special and rare units along with all the characters will be gone for new ones in 9th edition?
Karl Franz/Sigmar, Archaon, Nagash, Malekith...
I know we don't know nothing yet, but I would like to know your thoughts on this

They killed off pretty much every named character (true fact), and they are erasing whole factions, while merging whole other factions together (possibly true rumor) so I think, it's safe to say that there are going to be some very big changes to every level of the game. The terms "core", "special" and "rare" may not be used anymore. They will be especially meaningless if WHFB uses the "Unbound" rules from 40K.

Caledonian 95th (undergoing regimental reorganization)
Thousands Sons (undergoing Warband re--- wait, are any of my 40K armies playable?) |

wow, i had no idea it would make such an impact on the game. I know a new edition is alot, but this is a bit OTT.

What is OTT? The fact that WHFB has killed of almost every neamed character during the End Times? Yeah, that was pretty OTT, but when the stated goal of the campaign is to literally end the world, I guess it's expected. Or were you referring to my statement that factions may be getting erased and others may be getting merged? Because I'm just repeating what has been said before in several threads on Dakka: rumor is that WHFB is getting stripped down to 6 factions, with all the humans going in one pile, all the elves going in another, all the chaos going in yet another group, and nobody talking about Lizardmen at all. Is that OTT? Well, if you liked the old WHFB then yeah, it can seem OTT. It is still just a rumor at this point, though. Or were you talking about how the terms core, special, and rare might not be used in the new edition? Because I don't know how that's over the top. The game may be getting shaken up so much that those terms might not apply any more. When 40K went from 2nd ed to 3rd ed, the terms they used for unit selection changed completely, too.

This whole six factions is worrying me a bit ... I've always been and always will be a Bretonnia man and my son wants to play Lizard Men. Now, merging those factions or doing away with them isn't my prime concern because we can always do "counts as" but I'm wondering if I should go buy a bunch of Bretonnian and Lizard Man models now to ensure that we get the models we want?
What do you guys think? What has happened in the past when factions get squatted? Do the models stick around for a while, or do they vanish and reappear on eBay at outrageous prices right away? Or does the opposite happen and people start liquidating their collections on eBay at bargain basement prices?

OOP models tend to increase their prices exponentially on eBay. That said, it's not really an universal rule. Metal models usually revalorize themselves much more than plastic ones. You can typically get the monopose plastics of the mid 90s for quite cheap on eBay. Good luck with metal models from the same period, and earlier, though.
It may be a problem with Lizardmen, not so with Bretonnia as I see it. In fact I'd bet something one of the reasons they're getting rid of Bretonnia is the same they got rid of Dogs of War ten years ago: too many alternative models available from other manufacturers. A lightly-armored pikeman is a lightly-armored pikeman, it does not matter who produces them, and the same happens to a surcoat-over-mail mounted knight.
In your case, I wouldn't be too worried about the new or old rules either. You still have your 5th edition ruleset? You can still play with that, you know. In fact, that's actually what many people going Oldhammer do, using 5th armybooks and rulebook with some minor tweaks (mostly adding a few things from later editions, like 6th flight and magic).
It may be a problem to people who only have an official GW store available to play, or people whose gaming acquitainces are staunch " GW gamers", but if you simply want to play with your sons or in a more or less closed gaming circle...

Progress is like a herd of pigs: everybody is interested in the produced benefits, but nobody wants to deal with all the resulting gak.
GW customers deserve every bit of outrageous princing they get. |

So...
Most probably, all my character models are going to be garbage at the beginning of 9th edition...
Damn... So much money put on Archaon, Nagash, Mortarchs, Settra, Malekith...
This really hurts :S

Nagash and the Mortarchs are most likely fine; brand new models, and good bets for inclusion as special characters. But, I guess, that all depends on how the fluff shakes up in the new edition. I can see GW bodging it by saying that the same character archetypes were reborn in the new age, so that you have Kteffera instead of Neferata, but it is the same model...

Hope you are right, my friend
I search the internet for all kind of information and found out that there is a forum with a reliable source that told these models will be in 9th edition (it must be considered a rumor, till we get real evidence, of course):

Yeah I'm not really interested in other manufacturers' models ... I like the way Bretonnians look. Or are you saying the large variety of similar models will keep the price of Bretonnians down even when they're OOP?
From past experience, does GW pull OOP stock from local stores or do they let it sit there until it sells? Or does it depend on the local merchant whether he returns unsold OOP product or keep it on the shelves?

I've still got my 5th and 6th edition rulebooks. I'm inclined to go with 6th because I have no idea where my magic cards for 5th are and I frankly liked the shift away from herohammer more to troops in 6th and as I recall magic was fairly under control that edition too.

That's been going around for ages, and is probably mince. Note that there is no High Elf models on it, not even the brand new and popular Sisters of Averlorn and Phoenix kits. Like most everything else, probably baseless speculation.

You mean, like your average feudal knights in mail armor but with extremely ridiculous helmets?
About keeping their price down... that's hard to predict. Plastic knights of the realm or knights errant, I've seen them relatively cheap on eBay. Men at armas and longbowmen, even cheaper. Questing or Grail knights though, those are metal, and they tend to get way more expensive.
GW's policies about OOP stock have not been consistent as far as I know. I do have read things about metal stock being discarded and sent to dumps.
I've still got my 5th and 6th edition rulebooks. I'm inclined to go with 6th because I have no idea where my magic cards for 5th are and I frankly liked the shift away from herohammer more to troops in 6th and as I recall magic was fairly under control that edition too.
You can even play 5th with heavy restrictions for character's equipment and 6th magic. Possibilities are endless.

The Chaos Gods ravaged the world until they became bored and focused on other Warhammer worlds, and the Warhammer Fantasy setting ended with a "mysterious figure" taking hold of the last speck of light and finding the core of a new world. With that on the very last page, every army in Warhammer Fantasy at once was squatted until further notice. Armies immediately went for sale on eBay, and "Warhammer Fantasy General" threads quickly devolved into "Muh waifu/husbando! NO!" and discussions about what other tabletop games are worth getting into.

The world ends and almost everyone dies (or is destroyed if they are already dead) but.........
one "man" survives and is rekindling a world........ not sure who - likely to be Karl Franz/Sigmar or Archeon
Its not totally clear if any of the more powerful souls can survive in the warp - it seems not but....
Malkeith was enveloped by the warp and quickly had all his memories stripped
Tyrion and his beloved Everyqueen walked into the warp hand in hand - their daughter having been claimed previously be Chaos.
Not sure about Lileaths child - even she is not sure.......although her whole plan was to try and safeguard her.
The undead are some of the last survivors with the cool girls - Nerferta, Khalida and Isabella guarding some of the last mortals in Sylvania as the warp comes for them.
There is the weird possessing undead thing - which is thought to be Dracenfels?
If Nagash survives (which they have tried to say he didn't) then the other undead have a chance. Not that you would want a world where he rules - he wants it nice and quiet with only the dead - even the Vampires are screwed in his endgame.
Of course the Chaos Gods can just remake the whole thing if they like - Slaanesh was definitely having second thoughts about the whole thing and the lost potential for play things - I have always thought that Chaos does not actually want to win games like this as the game is then over..............
If Karl-Franz/Sigmar is the new creator then why would he brign back any races other than humans and Dwarves
Same with it if its an Elf - just Elves and Dragons then?

Well, after everything I read here and in other foruns, I can't see Games Workshop making the new models just for the End of Times Campaign... So, I think those models will be possible to be used in 9th edition, also.
The "one "man" survives and is rekindling a world" must be really Sigmar... This way, I believe Archaon must be brought back by the Chaos Gods... In order to make the game continue...
Seeing that where is life, is death, Nagash (mostly due to the new End of Time Model), must be present in the new world also...
My biggest question NOW is regarding the Elves... Who survived from them?
If all the factions are correct, then there will be someone representing each faction.
1 - Sigmar for the new Army of Light (with some Dwarves and Ogres)
2 - Archaon for Chaos (Demons + Beasts + Mortals)
3 - Nagash for Undead (specially because all rumours point out for VC being unit to TK again)
4 - Skaven went to another dimension and they must come back all the same with some evolutions, seeing that many centuries have passed since the End of Times.
5 - Elves got who??
6 - Orc's and Goblins got who??
And, from what everyone is saying in other foruns "using" their "sources", Lizardmen are really gone :S

They do want to win, it's just bad for them if they do. There used to be a 5th chaos god Malal who represented chaos's self-destructive nature.
It is said in 40k that had Horus won, chaos would have reigned for 1,000 years before tearing itself apart. The lack of human souls to fuel the chaos gods would have meant their utter destruction & the chaos gods would have been gone , if at least for a time, giving the universe millenia of relative safety.

NO!" and discussions about what other tabletop games are worth getting into.

I'll be happy if this is the real answer

Just got happy with a rumor I read a few minutes ago from a good good source...
At the end of the End of Time novel, Sigmar sacrificed himself to change time...
So, before the real destruction, and with everyone knowing what was going to happen, players will intervene again to fight in the final moments.
I also read that Tyrion, Alarielle, Malekith, Settra, Nagash, Guiles, Aborash, Glott, Belakor and Archaon were alive or something like that... And Archaon is the new good guy!!!!
Now, let's wait to confirm these rumors

There isn't enough salt in the world for this rumor.

It's a science fiction world... Anything can happen...
Most of the rumors are also pointing out to "bubbles", right? lol
So, what can we tell for sure that got more possibilities to happen?

It's a fantasy world, not a science fiction world. Sciene fiction is usually used (hah!) when referring to the future.

GW needs a major shake up to WHFB, because sales have plummeted. The model they have been using to sell the game is no longer functioning.
They must create a new model to revitalize the game.
Part of this plan seems to be a restart with the fluff into something fresh and new, while still keeping some of the Olde feel.
