Based on my reading of the rules, it seems like Howling Banshees, if led by Jain Zar(Warlord) in a Craftworld Warhost can move 6 inches, and run a guaranteed 12 inches every turn.

6 inch move with a 12 inch run! ((Run Automatic 6 inches from Detachment rule. +3 from acrobatic +3 from Jain Zar's warlord trait))

While this doesn't let them have a turn 1 assault or anything, it DOES give them a pretty good shot with battle focus of doing some damage with their pistols and Jain's bola blade thingy, while setting them up for a round 2 charge with a threat range of (6+2d6+3) 15 inches on Average.

There is NO SUCH THING as MORE ADVANCED in 40k!!! There are ONLY 2 LEVELS of RULES: Basic and Advanced. THE END. Stop saying "More Advanced". That is not a recognized thing in modern 40k!!!!

I'd rather stick any Howling Banshee's I use in a Venom than rely on them running across the board. Yes they can run 12" with Jain Zar, but that leaves them stranded, way upfield, with little support, and will likely be shot while they wait to charge

Well, the support deal is debateable. You could design a footslogging list to march up the board with them, and/or give them vehicle support even though they're walking. You could screen them with cheap jetbikes. And with 18" of movement, you could probably block LoS, or at least get some good cover.

But yes, Howling Banshees in venoms or raiders is pretty good.

Where's the rules question?

"'players must agree how they are going to select their armies, and if any restrictions apply to the number and type of models they can use."

This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

I was just making sure I was interpreting the rule correctly on how far they could run. Dakka likes to prove people wrong whenever possible, so I made a statement and waited for the fireworks.

I'd rather stick Jain in with another unit. She gives anyone she joins the +3".

Turn 1, serpent moves 6", and disembarks wraith scythes 6" forward. Wraiths and Jain battle scamper (run) 9". Then fire templates. Template is 8.5", putting it 5.5" into your deployment zone.

Yay, an effective alpha strike into your DZ with strength D templates.

Forgive me for my ignorance about allies, but when you want to have some banshees in a venom/raider do you have to buy a DE squad to embark on it originally or can you buy it instead of a WS?

You purchase it as a fast attack option for an accompanying DE detachment.

They are my bulwark against the Terror. They are the Defenders of Humanity. They are my Space Marines, and they shall know no fear.

So I can have up to 3?

Or 6, if you use Realspace Raiders Detachment from the DE book.

How many detachments can you have in a game, since I'll probably be using aspect host(3/2 banshees + scorps). BTW is said detatchment any good?

As many as you want (unless you are participating in tournaments which dictate otherwise). Realspace Raiders... its best benefit is giving DE access to more of the slot which houses some of their best units (Fast attack - those units being Scourges, Razorwings, Reavers off the top of my head).

Wraithguard don't have Battle Focus.

Wraith Host detachment gives it to them.

Banshees charging out a raider can successfully reach a target 21'' away from them with average charge rolls. That's pretty damn amazing.

A shame they're crap in melee.

For the price of 2 3/5 melta bombs they're quite good, and isn't the exarch int ap 2 attacks.
