Subject: April Painting Challenge: A Veritable Host of Venerable Veterancy: WINNERS ANNOUNCED!
Once again, we had some fantastic entries in the painting challenge last month, and once again it's over to you, the community, to vote on your favourites! This month (and in future), the voting works slightly differently:
You May Now Cast Multiple Votes!
Not only does this mean you don't need to spend hours deliberating over which fantastic entry gets your vote, but it also allows you to recognise those who have shown exceptional effort or creativity, stepped up their painting game or just done something very cool! It is recommended that you cast between 3 and 5 votes each (you can use less or more if you wish), and if you would like, please do leave a comment in the thread to let the entrants know why you picked out their work! You are also encouraged to head over to their blogs and/or galleries to leave feedback there, if you feel inclined.

Background;
Atticus and Menos are Terran bounty hunters. Originally officers from a local hive enforcement precinct they quickly became aware of the additional earning potential by performing 'odd jobs' for the local gang leaders. The pair started to become known for their skills and as demand for them increased, the risks started to rise rapidly. The decision was made, they sourced themselves counterfeit indents and joined the local bounty guild taking to the stars trading their skills for Throne Geld.

Paradigm - Love the paint job, the fluff and the bloody handprint. Grimy, gritty and realistic which normally aren't my cup of T.
Januine - Once again an awesome paint job, and I love the basing.
SJM - Brutal looking Nob, very vivid and keeping a great style across the model.
Grimdork - Twas the wings that did it buddy!
Zap Brannigan -

"If we hit that bullseye, the rest of the dominoes should fall like a house of cards. Checkmate."
"Rock breaks scissors. But paper covers rock, and scissors cut paper! Kiff: we have a conundrum...... Search them for paper... and bring me a rock."

Crap, sorry about that, entirely my mistake (forgot to tag your entry as finished).
I'll ask down in Nuts and Bolts if editing a OP will reset in the poll; if it won't then I'll add you in to the OP, if it will then I'm afraid there's not a lot I can do.
In either case, if anyone would like to vote for this entry, then please put it in a post and I'll make sure your votes get counted for the league/rankings:

That was a tough month! Annoyed with myself for not finishing it in time but expect to struggle for the next few months as my free time is now massively reduced with a new puppy
So my votes this month have gone to:
Januine - love the colour scheme, pose and paint work are all top notch
Paradigm - it is an good improvement over last month, best part is the head, really good job there
Zambro - although not finished they have all the signs of a great finish and I respect anyone that can do yellow
SJM - it looks like an 'old' model and paint style ie nothing flashy just a really good paint that fits the model
NLC - Just love the orkness going on in this piece, great work
I go based on painting skill/ability as I'm not a fluff person, there was plenty of others that had some good background going on but didn't quite hit the exceptional level the above got imo.
Cannot wait to see what people have in stock for this months competition!
I'm up, I'm awake!! Voted last night but was too bushed to write my comments. Just got up so here goes.
We all know the old saying 'picture tells 1000 words' or something to that effect. I love a fig that tells a wee story and loads of this month's entries do that in spades. That and a cracking paint job were how I chose my favs.
@Grim. This is cracking. It's the moment before action. He slowly turns his head and it's that last moment before it all really kicks off. You can really taste the tension in this. Lovely job on the wings...you really got that stretched latherly feel of the membranes
@Para. This guy is rocking. He totally reads as one from the fluff. He's telling a story - of battles, his fall and denegration and everything up to this frozen moment. The paint job really brings him to life as a character not just a pretty showpiece.
@queen_anne's_revenge. I love these guys. They are each in they're own story. brilliantly done. really really nice colour scheme too
@Tazn. Brilliant. Some much individuality in this fella. He is unique and every paint stroke seems to add a little more to his background and own story. Beautifully done
@SJM. Simply beautiful, attentive painting.really really like this guy.
@Calibanite Lion. Reading the 'munda novels at the mo and these 2 fellas totally struck a note with me. I can totally see them being part of that world. You did a realy nice job with them. Can totally read a stroy from them
Seriosuly great entries this month again. Thx to all for the comments and cheers again Para for putting this together. Best comp group esp in terms of motivation and group encouragement I seen going in a long time. Big up us
There are some great miniatures painted here! A hat tip to everyone who submitted a miniature, and thank you for all your work in organizing this, Paradigm.

Not really. This was all about having fun. Painting something cool, and stretching your abilities. If you did those things then you're good to go. Voting is just a bit of icing on the cake.
AUGmaniac wrote: Is it bad if I know for a fact I won't get a vote?
Dude, try and be positive! You painted up your guys to the deadline and that is something to be proud of. It's more than a lot of people manage.
I think you did a solid job but, if you want some constructive criticism, how about basing them for this month's comp? It adds so much to a mini if it's
got a half-decent base.

How come only 1 of my pics is up there? I don't mean to gripe, and I realize that my photos aren't so great since I shot them with an iPod touch, but they should still be there. In future my photos should be better since I have now acquired a real digital camera (albeit not a very good one according to reviews...).
Also it'll be hard to pick which entries to vote for, there are plenty of amazing ones in there!
My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/7/24, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~16000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Imperial Knights: ~2300 | Leagues of Votann: ~1300 | Tyranids: ~3400 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000 | Kruleboyz: ~3500 | Lumineth Realm-Lords: ~700

Being realistic is not a bad think, there is some crazy talent here and I wouldn't think I would get a vote here ever... but as soon as I got the time I will give it a go...

It's easy to assume that people arguing an interpretation you disagree with are just looking for an advantage for themselves... But it's quite often not the case.

Hey everyone. Felt like a numpty today when I realised that I had missed Para's link to this thread -
So that was more arduous than any exam I've ever sat!
Before I got through who I voted for, I thought I might explain why I chose who I did out of 12 who were in the running for my 5 votes:
1 - Impact factor
2 - Quality of paintwork and detailing
3 - Realistic (or creative interpretation of) veteran status
4 - (And the most stupid, ridiculous criteria, but the only way I could whittle the final 9 down to 5) Presentation (combination of background when taking photo, quality of photo and clever use of their 4/5 images to show off their figure)
That's all I could do, but know that everyone here deserves amazing self-esteem boosts for what they've produced and that this was ridiculously tight.
So without further ado (in alphabetical order):
Grimdork - epic choice of miniature, the scale detailing is superb and the blending of wing and tendril colours is faultless
Januine - this is not a "Januine fan club vote" (as I did vote last month for him to), it's just that the diorama presents the figure well, the detailing of the cape is pristine and the colour choices are perfect. The hand conversion offers an example of the fine attention to detail he has used.
queen_annes_revenge - They just stand out. They look like a veteran squad and I believe their background. They have exquisite fine detail and the choice of colouring (and the execution) is second-to-none
TazN - That bike again has details galore and stands out as soon as you look at it. He looks like an ork that has beaten heads, had his beaten and is back for more. This was an example of great camerawork in that one of he photos has the bionic eye as the focus of attention. An example of how to sell your figure. It has made me plan my final pics better next time to put time aside to light properly and get out the camera rather than using my phone.
SJM - an ork that looks commanding and has trophies a-plenty adorning his person. The colour choices are just right and the highlighting is superb.
I hope that was helpful to all participants. I learnt a lot about my entries in the future, just from voting.
On a side note, I am truly humbled to have received 3 votes so far and truly cannot understand why someone could have picked my champion over some of the entries on display. It means a lot to me and I will be forever grateful.

Lots of great entries on this one! Glad I can vote more than once as there're too many models that catch my eye. Wish I could have entered but my painting time this month was rather limited and here's hoping I can get in on the next one.

I voted for everyone. Some of the work was really amazing but I didn't want a single person to go without getting at least one vote for the effort placed.
