I guess my earlier prediction was off by 3. Thank you to all who voted, not just for me, but everyone. I got beat by, admittedly, much better painters. Hopefully going to step up my game this month.

Its all about getting better each time man, when I first started I was a terrible painted but after enough practice I got to be a better one.

I agree with Ustrello. Time and patience will improve your painting skills, and mastering the basics such as paint consistency and layering. I started painting initially about 18 years ago, and quite a few on these boards are probably in the same ballpark for experience, and even if many of us have taken extended breaks the skills remain.

One of the ways I got better at painting my base coats and highlights was on the old high elf spearmen and archers. They were all posed the same, so painting 20-30 spearmen and getting the highlights right on each one was a lot of repetition of the same brush strokes. I also painted a wide variety of mini's just for the joy of painting so I used a lot of different colour schemes. Admittedly my first models were blobs of indistinct colour, with smudges overlapping and no form of shading or highlighting but we all have to start somewhere right?

And @ Onemannoodles I am a little disappointed being just 1 vote off, but as the wife pointed out coming in 4th with so many good models on display is no great shame!

I had fun and I feel like I upped my painting game somewhat. My Deathwing Knights that I entered are probably the best looking minis in my collection! I think that the winners were chosen wisely, although that lava effect chaos marine deserves honorable mention! I really liked him!

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/7/24, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~16000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Imperial Knights: ~2300 | Leagues of Votann: ~1300 | Tyranids: ~3400 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000 | Kruleboyz: ~3500 | Lumineth Realm-Lords: ~700

Wow! I didn't realize I got a bunch of votes... thanks very much, guys

A really big thank-you to Paradigm; that is a lot of your time to organize this all for us, and it's lots of fun looking at everyone's work Anyone who's tried to organize any kind of contest, online or otherwise, will recognize how much time it takes to do seemingly simple things. Way to go, man.

By the way, SJM -- that is a KICKASS ORK. Grats on winning the contest, man -- you deserve it!!!!

Hey everyone. Just to echo comments already made - thank you Para, loads of hard work put in to this. The League table is updated on my phone, but needs translating into forum coding for the colour coding. I got number-numbness last night and had to give up. I'll get it updated soon.

I've taken the votes from last night and it will destroy me to to do it all again if there were any extras, so I'm going to have to honour those I gathered last night which is when the contest had ended.

Keep up the good work everyone, now I need to go to work , but when I get home I'll be be furious, ready to build some more
