I haven't been playing 7th edition 40k, but I do have a large CSM collection. People from my FLGS have been regularly borrowing models for their own games.

At first, it was just a LR or some squads that I would get back the same day. But now it's gotten to the point where there's always a lot of stuff out and I am not seeing it for a few weeks.

Nothing bad has happened and it's not really a burden or anything, but I sometimes worry about what could happen.

Anyone else ever lend models to people at your FLGS, or have something bad happen when you do?

Never out of my presence, though.

Nope. It takes one person being irresponsible to wreck the work I put into them.

Even if I did, I would lend it to one person at a time so I didn't have to worry about losing stuff, and if they weren't prompt to return it they wouldn't be continuing to do so.

Lending?

If its like for 1 game i have no issue with it.

Il even lend out armies for people that want to give it a shot so long as i have a list of what is taken to do inventory after.

Over a week? Feth no. (unless its like preassembled grey dudes with no special work done to them. that i have no issues with)

I make it a point to never lend anything to anyone.

That may sound really harsh, but even with people that I thought would be responsible with my things in the past, I have been burned. At one time, I'd lend people anything and help people in any way I can, but I've become extremely jaded over time with people who took advantage of that side of me. I just won't do it anymore, and I actually feel kinda bad about that in all honesty, but at the end of the day, I don't have to worry about the things I've put time and money into.

I literally have only one friend now that I'll actually allow to borrow things. Nobody else gets a pass.

Last time I let my collection out of my sight at a public event I lost it Never again.

Used to think I should also bring my armies into the GW store I worked in to allow the customers more variety then just the stock store army.

The Stock Store army was always really bad quality and even though we worked to try and improve it, it never seemed to get better.

Course it eventually twigged it was because it was lent to customers to try the game with.

If I can put £200 into some models for a "I thought it might be fun army" then so can everyone else :(

Short answer: no.

The long answer is that of course there have been exceptions -- but those are very rare.

Wouldn't borrow my stuff overnight, unless I really know the person, and even then I try to make strict rules and check that everything is ok afterwards.

It's not that I'm cheap with my thingies, but rather that things can happen by accident, and even amongst friends that can lead to awkward situations. Someone misplaces your army case, and suddenly that's 200 eur worth of miniatures missing, not to mention a ton of your personal time.

Unfortunately, more people you share your stuff with, larger chance there is that something goes wrong. I do have some pieces of terrain etc. lying around at friends' places, but that's about it.

My wyverns play in every tournament and are my only painted models in my army. They also switch armies every 2-3 tournaments.
Same with my IG codex.

No one wants to buy them and the codex just to play a few games.

Well first I only play at my place because I am house bound reasons mostly.

Having said that I do have multiple "Loaner Armies". My goal is to have one 2k army for every major faction for people to use while learning the game.

Yeah, saw my neighbor earlier tonight and he wanted to know why all these kids showing up at the house.

I tried to explain, he was polite but has no clue what 40k is. He told me he had started to think I was dealing drugs. Which is why they call it plastic crack, I guess.

I have 2 Land Raiders, 2 Fire Raptors, 3 Heldrakes, and a ton of bikers / spawn out on loan right now, along with some CSMs I don't really care about. When I get them back, I think I am going to start telling people no more.

No. I've spent way too much time and money on my army to let anyone else borrow it and potentially damage something. I would only even consider loaning someone a model if I'm standing right next to them and can make sure nothing bad happens to it, or if they're a close friend that I can trust to take care of my stuff. If some random person at the store wants an extended loan then they can forget about it unless they hand me a $10,000 cash deposit first.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

I do, but I make sure I'm in the same vicinity so that I know where it is. I find it hard to trust people these days, I have two people I trust, not including family and university professors.

Yea. Same here. No one borrows my models. no one borrows anything from me. If I'm hated for that, so be it! I put hard working into making my models "mine" and really would hate to see something bad happen to them

I would never loan out models like that. Luckily in my group nobody ever asks to borrow models, we all have plenty of stuff to run what we want to run. At most I'll loan out some armless space marines I'm in the process of building to proxy as something if someone forgot a unit at home, but that's about it.

I can't see myself doing that unless I'm there to watch the game. Good chance I'll want to watch the game anyways. I've only ever loaned stuff to family and friends. Thus the only people whom ever broke or lost my stuff was family and friends. I don't get upset over it, however, but I do get more cautious.

I think it's great that you're happy letting others use your models!

however - why do they need to take them home? are they touching up the paintwork for you?
your models stay with you - thats the point of ownership!

if they want to take them home they should buy their own bloody models!!

you have been exceptionally nice so far, but at some point the party has to stop - make it before you lose a model or something gets damaged.

I lend out whole armies, but I know that if something gets damaged the person borrowing it would replace it (not that anything ever has.) Never leant anything to kids though, but I don't interact with kids much.

Some players at my club store their armies at the club and let others use them for games. I keep my models at home but would bring them in for someone else's game. Worst that happens is some models get broken but are normally easily fixed, we have a bigger problem with losing game specific dice.

It probably helps that we mostly play historicals and don't have expensive GW/FW models to break. Midrange MC/Vehicles are the biggest.

I'm happy to loan among our group, but that's only because they're all older guys, and would replace it, along with working with each other. I wouldn't lend to anyone else, with the possible exception of some family.

Just me.

I lent my daemons to a friend for a tourney he was running, and he had them for about a year. During that time, he and his wife re-glued many models that had broken while they were sitting in my closet! Lending them was excellent. Lol. I had one greater daemon come back in 3 pieces, but they were clean breaks, easily fixed, and you couldn't even tell.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

I've only let people use my models if they were in the same game as me. Most people aren't going to run off with your stuff but accidents can happen.

Driven away from WH40K by rules bloat and the expense of keeping up, now interested in smaller model count games and anything with nifty mechanics.

Hells no, and if someone wanted to, I would take a cash deposit (of the models worth x 2), with a you break it you return it and I keep your cash menality, all signed for. Yep, I have been burnt at work for similar scenarios.

You may have overdone this. Lending stuff to friends is one thing, lending to lot of random people in a FLGS is too much imo. Try to get your stuff back and do this on a bit lighter scale. Having people come to your home to borrow stuff is weird (it would be weirder if you'd bring your stuff to them though).
