Plus, I'd just add the Deathwatch to my Sisters / Scions / Inquisition that I'm building up!

They'd just use the regular Genestealer sprue for Genestealers I imagine. Cultists/hybrids would need whole new models.

If this is a combined set I am hoping it includes all the rules for Warhammer 40'000 and also all of the Kill Team rules in print too. It could be a great way to launch Kill Team as the gateway product now that WH40k is getting larger and larger.

I also hope for lots of great genstealer cult models!

Bye bye Dakkadakka, happy hobbying! I really enjoyed my time on here. Opinions were always my own :-)

It would seem bizarre to put Genestealer Cultist figures in a standalone game when they're not currently in the Nid codex.

So yeah, the most likely option is that Genestealer Cultists are getting a mini-codex (along the lines of Harlequins?) or a Nid codex supplement. And yes, maybe those same models will also appear in a standalone game, although GW doesn't seem to take that approach often.

I'd love to see a proper model range, with cultists and hybrids and a limo and a Patriarch, but honestly don't expect that much love from GW :(

The description of the death watch having options for making kill teams makes me excited gw might do something to flush out the idea into a real skirmish game.

The current kill team rules well fun are a bit of a novelty at best.

I love the idea of decent Deathwatch but sadly I fear all they would do is remind me of how poor they perform in game versus the fluff. In one short story 5 of them take out an Ork hulk and horders of orks, in another you have a squad and an Inquisitor versus a planet of Tyranids.....

True Deathwatch would need more than just some fancy weapons and Sternguard stats.

Genestealer cult..... again love the idea but its hard to see how they'd bring anything other than nostalgia factor, it's Astra Militarum without the heavy duty stuff and probably better psyker.

Includes an additional Deathwatch sprue loaded with Killteam bits including:

Sternguard Sprue costs £30 and contains two sprues (£15 a sprue)

Add another sprue with all the bits for Deathwatch, I'm going to hazard a guess at £45 RRP for a 5 man squad. Or maybe they'll do a special discount and make it a round £40.

Either way, that's a feth-load of money for 5 blokes.

Thousand Sons: 3850pts / Space Marines Deathwatch 5000pts / Dark Eldar Webway Corsairs 2000pts / Scrapheap Challenged Orks 1500pts / Black Death 1500pts

Saga: (Vikings, Normans, Anglo Danes, Irish, Scots, Late Romans, Huns and Anglo Saxons), Lion Rampant, Ronin: (Bushi x2, Sohei), Frostgrave: (Enchanter, Thaumaturge, Illusionist)

Indeed Wulfmar, they would have to change the Sternguard sprues as the current price is already astronomic. Another sprue added is why it's really hard to believe the 'Birds'-part of the rumors.

Entirely new sprues like the Blood Angels Tacticals? This would make more sense

Not really it's more Chaos Cultists with some better kit

In first edition when they had their peak there were two Genestealer 'Cult' army lists, one of them the Invasion Force, which consisted of the basic types like the Patriarch (similiar to the modern Broodlord), Magus (Edit: In the Invasion Force army list there is actually only a 'D6 4th Generation Hybrids' entry, who are all psykers and thus very similiar. But a Magus, strongest psyker of all 4th Generation Hybrids, is only available in the Chaos Cult list described below), Genestealers and Hybrids.

Miniatures were Genestealers -> Hybrids (shown here in 3 stages - getting more like humans with each generation) -> The Magus.

This would be quite easy to achieve in miniature form, only 1 kit and 1 clampack needed in the addition to the current Genestealers and Broodlord kits.

In 2nd and 3rd edition they got most of the stuff from the other list, including Cultists (members of Genestealer infested families basically and some rebels), Limousines and other civil vehicles as well as lots of Imperial Guard/PDF vehicles and some troop types. And this is what most people refer to when talking about Genestealer Cults today.

The other list in 1st edition was the Genestealer Cult army, with most of the aforementioned Invasion Force units plus Daemons, Bloodthirster, Chaos Cultists, Beastmen, Limousines and even Cavalry. I cannot see GW bringing this list back. It would be quite easy to do but this is not how GW make armies nowadays (except for Daemonkin maybe)

The Patriarch was doing business with the Chaos Gods

Maybe GW bring back Limousines - which were wheeled or anti-grav cars with black windows to transport the Cult unseen. But if this turns out to be a boardgame how would those fit in?

I would love to see this as a board game boxed set, ala Assassinorium or Space Hulk. Fantastic crossover value, plus some cool board game tiles/board/whatever and a fun little game to play. Bring it on, I say. The two are perfect opponents for one another, although that would make what, 3 or 4 mankind vs tyranid games that they've done. Not that I mind, but a little diversity in the bad guys never hurt.

I don't think the Chaos Worshipping 1st ed Genestealer Cult is going to be a thing in this release. It doesn't mesh well with the modern tyranid fluff. Bringing back chaos gene cults would be like bringing back zoats.

But abit of speculation on what we have been hinted at so far for this new release.

Hasteings did say he didn't know if it was going to be a board game like the assassins, a campaign box, or some sort of starter set.

"Bird in the Trees" is telling us that the new Death Watch modles have options with unique kill team rules in mind for them. (Both melee and shooting). So if bird in the trees is correct, this would imply that the genestealer cult may have specail rules for kill teams also.

A cult limo makes alot more sence in the scope of kill team, then on the "full-scale" 40k table top. Having limos driving around on a table top with super sonic jets, D-weapons, and Super Heavies will look like a bloody joke.

Looking at those old models it's amazing that considering the redesigns, sometimes multiple of so many other certain units and whole factions over the years of 40k, that the genestealers are relatively unchanged.

Genestealer Cult Rumors Arrive!

Posted by Larry Vela at May 5, 2015

genestealer_cult

It looks like the rumor-tree is shaking after word of the Deathwatch vs Genestealer Cult upcoming product. Here’s the latest on the Genestealer Cult!

via Bird in the Trees

GeneStealer Cult Minis Rumors

Clampack 1: Magos with classic robe & staff

Clampack 2:Large-cranium figure with arms extended pose

Editor’s note: Patriarch maybe??

Genestealer Hybrid box: Updated versions of the original plastic Hybrid models. Modern-Genestealer like arms in attack poses, alongside hunam arms with knives, and lasguns. 32mm bases.

Genestealer Cultist box: Rabble humans without obvious mutations. Minor tyranid bits here and there as armor, and some tyranid style weapons as upgrade options.

Cult Truck: A down armored open bed vehicle in the similar vein to the AM Taurox.

These rumors are rated: POSSIBLE, coming from a combination of known and unknown sources

Hmmm...that's about the right amount of stuff. But we've had enough releases now that it could just be an educated guess.
The Taurox actually has an open topped build out of the box...but we haven't seen a 'new army using existing kit' yet so I'd bet on something completely new. Maybe they are taking Genestealer Cults in an exciting new inbred hill billy direction...

It's been AGES since I've been drug out of woodwork to write about rumors, but the idea of assassins, skitarri, and genestealer cults has me all excited.

I've been a fan and major supporter of the 40k world since 1991.

In that time there have been a few major breakthroughs after seond edition, golden ages if you will. My dividing line for GW is at the time of the 3rd Edition release. At this point they dropped all of their side projects and focused on three lines.

What I saw as the nail in their coffin around this time was taking on LOTR. Boo, what a marketing flop to have a company with such a unique IP spend 1/3 of their capacity designing product for a third party. That was a major FAIL!

Anyway, they've managed to drag 40k into the future and they've had some major Aha moments along the way.

We've got some great models, great rules, etc, but there've only been a few times in over 20 years that I've seen GW go all out like they're going now, and I support them 100%.

My only suggestion is to drop their prices 10%. Do whatever it takes, but drop those prices 10%.

Now onto the rumor.

I love it.

I love the idea of a singular boxed board game, but I doubt that would happen. If it does, I still support it 100%.

Why?

Well I'm excited about the Assassins game too. I like board games, and well the quality of the game is high. Since none of us have played it, I don't think any of us can rag on the game itself.

One thing that made me really happy was that in the video for the Assassins game they said "solo play" was an option. I grew up in Wyoming, and had no one to play 40k with my entire childhood. I always wanted a solo play game, and never bought one. If Assassins is truly solo play, I think that is a HUGE move for GW.

I am happy to see them going back into the board game, solo release world.

Everyone that whines about it not being 100% 40k is forgeting about GW's past. And I also can't help but wonder if any of them bid on Necromunda models on Ebay for their 40k armies???

I've been wishing on stars for over a decade that GW would return to the non Warhammer 40k releases and start focusing some effort on skirmish and board games. I'm honestly happy with what I'm seeing, especially since, inlike Space Hulk, they're designing the board and the models to easily convert to a 40k format.

IE give me a boxed set of marines vs. hybrids. I'm game.

Having a Genestealer Cult army make a comeback would be awesome and I would buy it, but I just don't see this as happening.

Maybe a small-scale release that adds on to the Tyranids with 2-3 hybrid models would be plausible, but not a full-on release.

Have you seen the Harlequin and Mechanicus releases?
It's very clear that GW are happy to create a fully supported new armies right now.
No idea if this is going to happen, but I think all bets are off as to what GW are willing to do right now.

I'm talking about the zoats army and their wonky fluff. Like chaos gene cults just doesn't fit with modern 40k.

I think it's a safe bet these will be based for the latter descriptions of the genestealer cult.

I have enough hybrids to make a small force but could never make up my mind whether to do them in limos or get some pick-up trucks and pitchforks for the brothers instead. Either seems like it would really work.

Go with the Genestealer rumors. Those have at least a small chance to come through.
