So i wanted to create my own space marine chapter, and model the entire chapter based off the grey knights.
I have quite a few grey knights models but they are so damned expensive if i were to ever want to model the
entire chapter id have to sell my house! So i was wondering If i cast my own models and and created copies
for personal use just to actually create the entire chapter (vehicles, infantry, air support, all of it) would that
really be an issues? I mean once painted no one would know the difference right? And as long as i didnt
try to ever sell them then there would be no harm to GW's profits or whatever. Just wondering if anyone has
ever done this before and how it went over with other players and collectors.

That's down to your own morals and values. I would recast a shoulder pad or something but probably not entire models. Honestly with the amount of effort and time required you'd probably be better off just buying the plastics from GW anyway.

Or you know, aim for something a little more reasonable than an entire chapter!

A few bits here and there probably won't make anyone sad or be considered wrong(legally would depend one the laws of your location).
But doing entire minis worth of recasting is hard to justify, in theory if you need more minis for a game they will be priced knowing that people will buy extras.

But reproduction of someone's work is always a bit sticky morally, they won't get any benifits from the extras but you will.

Myself I tend to fall on the side that doesn't like it, and I wouldn't do it myself.

Yeah. With the work and effort it would take to recast 1000 marines, you'd be better off buying the damn things.

It's still theft. No matter how you try to wiggle and jigger your logic, it is theft.

And yes, it does hurt other people. After all, if you don't buy, it is less money going to GW, which means less money spent at your store, which means a higher chance of that store failing and a higher chance of those people being out of a job.
