Hey guys,

So I'm thinking of ordering custom resin bases for a new army to add detail and flavor. Does anyone have any experience using them with GW models?

Specifically will I be able to use them with the standare legs of a Space Marine model per se...or will I need to convert alot to have them all with both feet on the surface of the base? The Company I'm currently looking at is DragonForge, their urban rubble range. Anyone who knows something your input would be greatly appreciated

The bases should work fine; they're the same size, and will be designed with stability/ease of use in mind.

My newest army is using dragonforge urban rubble bases and they are working perfectly fine. I would suggest of course washing them after getting them and then sanding the rims so the primer can adhere to it better. If you are worried about them not sticking on as well, just pin the feet to the base.

Good advice Ustrello I pretty much pin all my minis to their bases now. It doesn't take any longer, really, and it guarantees that they don't separate, especially if you game with them.

One thing to remember when painting interesting resin bases is that the focus of your mini is the model, not the base, so try to make the resin base muted in comparison to the model, so that it's interesting without competing for attention.

^this, unless you go with the heroic dragonforge bases then go a bit extra on them.

I got the Dragon Forge Desecrated Lands bases and used them for my Dark Angels. They're a lovely product, and they painted up really easily. I just made sure to wash the bases in soapy warm water (standard operating procedure for resin) and then painted them before pinning the models to them. Some examples:

I've never pinned models to anything before. Is it hard to do without experience? What materials should I use?

Chop up some paper clips, drill a hole in one foot or both and crazy glue (not model cement) a section of the paper clip "pin" in. Wait until it dries and then drill a corresponding hole in your base. Add crazy glue to sole of foot and mount to base. Prosper.

Round wooden tooth picks also work great for pinning. The pours texture of the wood makes for a solid bond when glued. Their diameter matches up with a 3/32 drill bit.
