A memorial vigil will be held for a cow that was shot dead by police marksmen.
The cow, nicknamed Bessie, was one of three that escaped from Rising Sun Country Park in North Tyneside on Sunday.
A helicopter and six police marksmen tracked the trio - two were recaptured but Bessie was shot "in the interests of public safety".
The vigil is to take place at 18:00 BST on Friday, at a field in Chicken Lane, Wallsend.
More than 6,000 people have liked a Facebook page set up in her memory.
'Serious send-off'
Those attending the vigil are asked to wear a cow onesie and bring a candle.
Dave Turner, who set up the R.I.P. Wallsend Cow Facebook page, said: "It's not every day you get a cow getting shot in a field nearby. I think we need to mark this occasion with a serious send-off for Bessie.
"It wasn't doing anything, it was just eating a bit of grass - it probably got sick of the grass it was eating elsewhere, it heard about a nice new patch, went down and started grazing, and the next thing is police turn up and start firing at it.
"We are going to light candles and say a little prayer for her."
A Northumbria Police spokesman said Bessie was destroyed after becoming "increasingly distressed" and "causing dangerous and severe obstructions" on a major road.

If a cow gets onto a main road in England however, and might scratch someones car paintwork that is, of course, justified grounds to call in marksmen and blow it away.

And that is why I love being English..
It does seem a touch extreme though does it not? As my work colleague just said 'That's a bit feckin' tight innit?'
And a waste of money. A helicopter and six marksmen?! They send less for a manhunt for gods sake. Living in the country like I do, you see cows on the road all the time. It's just a case of getting out of the car and shooing it back in the general direction of the nearest field. Those city folk have no idea

Oh good lord... I thought to start with it was a joke, but it seems to be turning in to a whole "why did you have to shoot the loverly cow!" thing. Ignoring the fact that they managed to round up the other two and after three hours it was risking getting on to a major road, I guess either the A19 or the A1058 duel carriage ways. If it had got on to a busy duel carriage way and caused an accident the results could have been horrific.

Scratch paintwork? Have you ever seen the damage hitting a deer does to a car? Never mind a cow which it ten times the weight. And last time I checked cows weren't endangered, or wild.

Wait, what, people are going to do a vigil because of a (now) burger?
You english are getting weird
But I have to say, 6 men and an helicopter seem justified... a car hitting a cow would likely kill everyone on board. The damages are surreal.

Wait why are we shooting cattle that out again? There's been near a dozen times I've had cattle on the highway. Several times ironically in Brenham.
When we first moved to where we were at, cattle would routinely get out into the roads. No biggie. The farmer will be along directly.
Shooting them, thats just wrong.

Cows are pretty big, pretty sure a lorry hit a cow once and the lorry got knocked off the road because of the impact.
Does the helicopter crew get to eat it? Food tastes better when you kill it yourself.

We have farmers, but we also have quite a bit of common land. Under common land laws, commoners (people who live on the common) can graze their animals on it. As there tend to be roads running through commons, occasionally an animal can walk onto the road. I've nearly hit quite a few things in my time.

I should be more clear. How come you don't have someone who can like, herd a cow? Did you know you can herd a cow with a Nissan Sentra? I've done it.

A cow loose on the roads? That's, like, a daily thing here in Texas. You either drive around it or see who can make better "moo" sounds.

I was driving home from Springfield, IL to STL last one night and one jumped out in front of me. I slammed on the brakes and snapped a hand (as I often do) over to catch my dog who was laying down in the passenger seat, half asleep.
I missed, and the poor guy went flying. Bounced off the glove compartment and wound up on the floorboards. Had to spend some time talking him back up onto the seat.

It's pretty common to have livestock on the roads in rural areas in the UK I would expect, similar to Ireland. Often have to watch out for sheep in the West of Ireland or herd them out of the way in some places.
You get the odd cow down where I am from because it's a dairying area, but yeah, just put the hazard lights on, hop out and shoo it off the road. Cows are not that hard to manage.
I guess if it was a motorway it might have been more of a risk?

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face.
