I love the new MT models! I once thought they were mini-space marines, but now I know they are even more badass! I now I am sounding like a fanboy at the moment, its because I certainly am at the moment! I was wondering dakkdakka thinks about them, seeing how I haven't seen much of them recently.

Sadly, they don't really live up to their billing in the codex. They exist in an awkward place between cheap troops and elite troops, and to be honest I think most of their purpose was to make sure GW didn't need to maintain some flavor of "Storm Trooper" in multiple codexes.
They're much more of a "splash in for flavor" force than a dedicated army.

This, very much. They are less than half a codex when alone
That being said, the models ARE cool, and you probably could use them as Veterans or such in a normal IG army

Or just run them as themselves in the Codex: Astra Militarum, along with the the rest of the guard army. The amount of rules material in the C: MT book could be boiled down to a three paragraph essay.

Stormtroopers have their place, I think, for more than just flavour.
The IG player I face regularly occasionally has one or two five-man drop squads with a few melta guns in his vendettas, just to plop them next to a monolith or something and blow it away.

What he said. Just be aware that they WILL most likely be shot to pieces next turn.

You can do the same thing for less points with veteran squads.
10-man veteran squad with 3 melta guns is 90 points.
5-man Tempestus squad with 2 melta guns is 90 points.

No deepstrike tho. And 10 guardsmen slogging it will die without doing anything, while the Scions have a very good chance of landing within melta range.

But why would you load Scions in a Vendetta?
And you can't load Vets in the Vendetta, either.

I don't know why you'd bother doing that. Why bother using either combination when you can stuff melta-vets into 35 point drop-pods and have guaranteed, super-accurate deep-strike turn one? I'm just pointing out that even in the scenario provided (dudes jumping out of planes to blow up vehicles), melta-vets do it better.

MT are only good because they can DS. Their average 4+ save and their poor Ld 7 won't help them last very long even thought they are a small unit you can hide pretty much anywhere.
They are also better than Vets in Vendetta/Valkyrie because they have Move through Cover which allow them to ignore Dangerous Terrain tests.

Can you really stick AM guys in another codex Dedicated Transport? Sounds a little bit WAAC no?

But the scions have deep-strike, krak grenades, and carapace armor. Most of the time veterans are the superior pick, but scions are our only deep strike unit, and not particularly expensive at that. They're good for punishing an opponent who leaves an objective or artillery piece unguarded.

Yeah, so I have a all stormtrooper (metal OOP models) army. 90% of the time I run them using the elysian drop troops army list from forgeworld with carapace armour on all the squads (usually a CAD + Inquisition allies). By doing this they are very good and I feel comfortable taking on pretty much any list in the game (scatbike spam is very easy for me to whoop as I DS AV12 flyers turns 1 and have a bunch of ignore cover/monster hunters plasma turn 2).
Alternatively they are not bad if you use the ruling that MT codex can take any forgeworld units for IG. This gives them cheap artillery units to survive turn 1, ObjSec units to DS turn 2+, and decent flyers, also no tax units to get any of these. It works pretty well actually and I only find myself missing Yarrick.
I also like the airborne and taurox formations but they are very difficult to play well. Any mistakes usually loose you the game.
Without forgeworld and not taking the formations MT are extremely difficult to play. They are horribly unforgiving and have a lot of trap choices that seem like a good idea until you actually play it.

This was the chief reason, since the vendetta drop-off thing can cause DT tests, on top of the carapace armour and such that have been mentioned. The other loadout is plasmas to go with the hot-shots.

I own a Militarum Tempestus army. Linkety link link
They are a tool box army and they are quite mobile.
Two major points: Pack in all the Command squads you think you can. at least three. Also, be aware that they are far better with Astra Militarum allies than without. They have some holes in their codex that cannot be handled by the Codex itself if you want to go with a ground attack force. If you go airborne, You may find slightly better success as a stand alone. But what fun is that when the Taurox prime looks so cool?

It's not WAAC, it's simply not allowed.

Correct, although some lists get access to drop pods as a Fast Attack choice. There's a Blood Angels formation that can unlock 6 of those pods with a very small investment... if I recall correctly. It's entirely allowed to throw those AM soldiers into another codex's Fast Attack transport. EDIT: Correction: it's a "Flesh Tearers Strike Force" detachment, not a Blood Angels formation. You have to have a HQ and a troops choice, but they unlock 6 Fast Attack pods. Blood Angels and Space Wolves also have access to non-dedicated pods as Fast Attack choices.
