Hey dakka, I'm getting back into 40k, after a few years.
I'm not going to be keeping up with the latest edition or anything, i've found a group of people who play 5th edition exclusively, and I will be joining them.

Anyways, after taking a class about Genghis Khan last semester, I have decided I want to run a white scars army.

What is the most affordable way to get all the bikes needed for a white scars army?

Let me know
thanks guys
Austin

Was watching a bidding war about two weeks ago on many White Scars bikes, all painted up and sold in lots of 3-4 each. Something like 20 auctions. None of the lots went for more than 10% below retail. Whereas I was picking up Chaos, Ultramarine and unpainted bikes from the same seller, same day for about $3 for basic, $9 for converted versions or multiple bikes.

Point of the story: White Scars aren't cheap. It's a shame you like the fluff though, because someone sold a BUNCH of Void Eagles Bikes on ebay and those lots are being snagged one by one. Good paint, good price.

Converting is the cheapest way but it's not easy, and sometimes the parts are more expensive than buying new. If you can, look around for unpainted models on ebay. A good portion of them are decently put together and get good at stripping paint for the ones that are painted poorly.

Just buy a crap load of dark vengeance bikers and sand off their DA details and cut off the wings in the back(unless you like them, I kept them on my command squad since they look cool).

You should be able to buy 3 dark vengeance bikers for around $15

With the new codex coming in going to say don't invest in pure biker armies anymore if your not a dark angel. The unfortunate reality is that their stripping away makes x troops in the new book and only the ravenwing have concrete job security.

Blood Angels are a prime example of why you should be concerned players went from having ten troop squads to none overnight. And with white scars you don't have the security of your own book your crammed in next to the smurf village and the agri world mean mothers. You can't expect to be treated differently than they will be and that means it's very very likely white scars won't get bikes as troops or a formation that grants such a thing or even a detachment. I'm not saying it's right but after they've accounted for their apologizing to the Crimson fists again, breeding their host of new iron hands players, and applying new coats of paint to the smurf village you won't have much room at all.

I'd say be grateful if ko Sarro is even allowed to ride a bike next codex let alone make your entire army bikes and speeder cars.

I'd start taking a hard look at diversifying and planning ahead for such an eventuality.

DA army: 3500pts,
admech army: 600pts
ravenguard: 565 pts

White Scars thing is Bikers. I doubt they would take that away from them.

Cheapest way to get bikers is Dark Vengeance bits dealers. They are going for around $13 for 3 bikers, while the Chinese recasters are still asking $7.50 per biker.

Your other hope is to find a White Scars player who is tired about people complaining about his army. There is a White Scars army locally that I swear has passed between at least 3 owners at this point.

Source on Ravenwing? Since the DA are rumored to follow right on the tail of Space Marine, they can get changed too.

But, previous rumors said a lot about a White Scars Detachment/Formatuon being VERY bike heavy. They might not be troops, but there will still be ways to run 20+ bikes according to rumor. All bike armies might need tweaks, like every army after any codex release, but I still think OP is safe gathering a good amount of bikes for it.

ravenwing have been an all bikes and speeder cars since the days of the legions. Each of the six wings specialized in a different aspect of the space marine units such as iron wing being nothing but tanks.

The white scars are an army about hunting hvt's like sport and living in yurts that happen to be good at riding bikes and happen to have a lot of them. The white scars were given the ability to spam bikes it was never something they had in their veins since the days of the legions. And what gw can giveth, gw can taketh away.

To eliminate deathwing or ravenwing for dark Angels would be actually eliminating a whole facet of the chapter and its heritage and when forge world finally releases the legion tactics for the dark Angels not having bikes as a thing throughout the ravenwing motif would make them look hypocritical and gw is many things but they aren't hypocrites.

So no the white scars are no more allowed to spam bikes than orks were allowed to spam them. And with the iron hands now getting all kinds of love this book is going to get awfully fething cramped, the fists twins won't go anywhere, and the smurfs are the poster child, the Ravens are already in the smallest corner they can stuff them and the salamanders regrettably are just as bad. With the iron hands now getting a much more prominent featuring this time around, this really leaves the white scars or the Templars as someone who's either going to get packed into a smaller corner of the book than they already are if not shoved out entirely. And even if you kick one out the rules section for this book is going to be cramped like the inside of the turkey at Matt wards family thanksgiving.
