The banner up top and e-mails were bad enough, now you're doing SAS adverts in posts?

This is bad comedy.

(MOD EDIT in first post to save finding it below - just click the mostly hidden 'X' in the top left of the big banner under the header and the medge ads will all vanish)

It really isn't that bad. It's a little blurb at the bottom and the campaign is almost done.

Hopefully these are taken away once the campaign concludes. Look, anybody browsing Dakka who was interested in the KS has already pledged, no point in aggravating everyone else who don't care for ME. And I happen to find these screen-wide ads right above the quick reply box mighty aggravating.

I still maintain it isn't that bad. Consider how much time you've put into Dakka and they're asking you for a little consideration re: their KS.

Runnin up on ya.

I thought it odd as well. I pay $25/year to support the site as a DCM and one of the supposed benefits is that I don't have to see ads if I don't want to.

Since the last update, I constantly see Google ads at the top of the page and now I get the Dakka game ad at the bottom of the page.

Yes, the KS campaign will soon be over but one would expect that the powers that be will continue to support their investment which means this has potential to become a trend so I would say that Cyporiean's concerns are valid.

Six mistakes mankind keeps making century after century: Believing that personal gain is made by crushing others; Worrying about things that cannot be changed or corrected; Insisting that a thing is impossible because we cannot accomplish it; Refusing to set aside trivial preferences; Neglecting development and refinement of the mind; Attempting to compel others to believe and live as we do

Yeah, that sounds like a bug that needs to be addressed.

No reason that an advertisement is bigger than the actual thread I'm trying to post on. The banner ad up top for the same kickstarted is modest but these inflated pictures... Too much.

Yeah, these adverts at the bottom of the page are annoying. Is there anyone on the forum who has somehow not noticed the new game from the constant (and reappearing) banner ads at the top? Please remove these ads, or at least halve the size of the pictures.

Yeah, this is a bit much.....The banner add already made my phone viewing more annoying but hey, it's their site and their game. But the massive adds before the reply box are honestly annoyingly to much.

Well, having been on another site where they sell their product, threads like this would be locked almost right away and most of you would have been warned or banned (try it out at Palladium Books site) so it could be worse!

I do admit they are a bit big and I had not thought the impact on phones to review so I could see it being irritating if not a bit tacky.

Not long now though!

I like their terrain sprue the most of the models just thought I would throw that out there... the advertising has had no influence on me at all...

The pictures showed up for a couple of minutes on my desktop in Chrome, but they're all gone now. The ads are still there.

Yeah, weird. I don't have any blocker programs or anything.

They do show up on my phone.

Just click the hidden 'X' in the top left of the banner under the header and the in thread banners should vanish. I'm afraid all of our loyal users are collateral damage in this advertising push - 90% of Dakka's traffic is visit one page and leave, and they are who the big banners are focused on. Only 5 days until we remove all the ads so thanks for your patience until then.

The google ads thing is an ongoing bug, and on the list to fix.

Reduce the size and impact of them and make them a bit more obvious that they're ads. I don't begrudge attempts to push the game, just not so forcefully please!

Thanks Pretre, but that hasn't been updated since Dakka offered these new advertising options to SAS.

These ads are a one shot deal, they are too big and too annoying to be a permanent fixture of Dakka and are just being used because SAS and Dakka are intertwined and I personally want to see just how much traffic Dakka is capable of creating in a small window of time, and all the interesting associated data that they will generate. They will be gone by June 4th.

We've made sure there is an opt out in place, even if it does require documentation to make it work. As annoying as it might be to see such ads, I hope it at least highlights the amount of ads that we do not have on Dakka, despite it being possible for us to sell them for a substantial amount of income.

So, the Google ads at the top? Is this something I'm stuck with because I'm using Chrome?

Google changed their T&Cs which prevented us from embedding adverts in internal frames as we used to do. The end result was a massive drop in ad revenue for Dakka. We had to bolt on a quick fix of randomly showing the google ads using a different mechanism, but that mechanism does not implement the DCM ignore advert code at the moment. Fixing that is on my todo list, but because it needs to be implemented across every single page on our three internal subsystems (gallery, forum, wiki) and affected DCMs can always just install adblock and get the same results, it is a very low priority.

From Lego, re the bottom pictures

"Do it on the one at the top, and it will remove the one at the bottom as well - they use the same lockout code."

If you close the banner ad, it removes the picture at the bottom, apparently.

Note that after you close the top banner, you may have to refresh your browser to make sure it worked.

They are very distracting and certianly make the website more frustrating to use. Adverts plastered at the top of the page fair enough but having them at the bottom of every page like a thread is a bit much.
