Just urks me my favorite chaos god doesn't have a single decent HQ herald (Named). His name is freaking SKULLTAKER. He has a terrible wound pool and an awful weapon. The least they could have done was given him an Ap2 weapon...

I don't understand the need for AP 2 weapons all around. What does a 2+ Sv matter when almost everyone can ignore it? My Archon can't get AP 2, my Autarch can't get AP 2, Saint Celestein doesn't have AP 2 and even Mephison and the Sanguinor are *only* AP 3.
Skulltaker is a high Initiative relitively High Strength character with a fair amount of attacks at high Ws with the possibility of Insta-kill. That isn't half bad considering his price.

You bring good points to the table, but much like the Bloodthirster of insensate rage, there is a problem. Daemons don't normally have armor saves, Skulltaker surprisingly does, although it grants him EW, it doesnt make him any more survivable. The fact that if he runs into any model with an AP2 weapon of any sort hes in trouble means that WS and high initiative means nothing if the enemy get 5s to hit.
I honestly wish they would change the current "To hit" chart in melee and make the minimum base to hit, 6. This whole you have a 1 in 3 chance to hit someone even if you're a Grot fighting a Bloodthirster is bull crap. I get it though, the dice are the rulers of the game. But by that logic we might as well just throw all our models into a lake and who ever has more floaters wins the toiletry award... lol

Skarbrand is absent from the Khorne Daemonkin list and is only available to Chaos Daemons. Subtle, but may be an indicator of things to come. Kharn and Karanak weren't in Khorne Daemonkin either.

Also, I agree that there should be less ap 1/2, here is my solution, all ap 1/2 weaponry has gets hot +2 and melee weapons that are ap 1/2 are all unwieldy.

That makes little sense to me... Or to anyone I think. Recent years have introduced disgustingly tough and strong ap2 wielding cavalry and ap2 at initiative infantry... Take a look at Daemonkin. Amy champion can take an Axe of khorne and they're ap2 at initiative.
If skulltaker was meant to be a challenge monster, he'd have more than simply WS going for him. Any shmuck can throw a squad of guardians at him and roll 5+ luck shouldn't make aor break a good character. Maybe a unit sure, that's what fire and saturation are for. Skulltaker is just too weak, as awesome as he is as a model. What he brings to the table is your enemies hitting on 5+ (unless they're good WS also) and he has 2Ws unless you throw him on his Blood Crusher then give him a retinue of Hounds or Crushers.
That doesn't make him good when I Could simply take a herald of Khorne and run him with an Axe and he becomes a terminator killer.. Cheaper at that. Not to mention he has the worst Locus of the three for no reason and there is no way to switch that out unless you pay for another herald and give him one. Being a daemon grants him fear as well which is hilarious, because his enemies are already hitting on 5+ so this rule is sadly useless what with him having WS9 and all. He has a measly 5++ to rely on when the vast majority of small as fire these days can all be ap3 and in vollys of 40+ shots a squad your armor or EW means nothing

For 100points, you get a WS 9 Init 9 AP 3 decapitation and FC model with a 3+/5++ EW.
At his core he is not bad, he as really nice stat line and his gear is "honest" for 100pts.
His problem is that he only has the Privilege of Abjuration, for someone like him i would have though that privilege of Hatred was the bare minimum, or at least that the guys who wrote his rules wern't that lazy and would wrote a custom privilege for him.
And also the fact that like most of the non Psykers CSM Hq's, he doesn't boost nearby units or armies, while he still is an HQ.
Somethign along" Master of the Cohorts; all Bloodletters, Hounds and Bloodcrushers in your detachement, has Prefered ennemy, and Hatred(Psykers).
Of course he will not be has good that he was Back in 4th/5th with His rendings attacks on 4+, and if at least 4 of those where hits on the same target that it would Inflict ID, man those Dreadknights where gaking their power armored panties at the time...
