Hey guys. Want to do Mars colored mechanicus/ skitarii... Would it be good and quick to spray prime them with citadels khorne red?

As far as I know Khorne red is the successor to the old Mechrite red which I personally love for Admech models.

So it'll look fine for Mars? I've had people tell me either Mephiston red or evil Suns scarlet

To be honest, any colour is easy for Mechanicus. Red, white, yellow, whatever you want basically, it'll look good in it. I'm using bright green for my Mechanicus, and they look fantastic!

My doing mine from Mars. The traditional red.

Citadel colour sprays are meant to go over another primer.

Khorne red would be a good basecoat then maybe use evil Suns scarlet for highlights

Khorne red is the color they paint the studio art with. As others have said, you should prime it before using the citadel spray.

I mean, Khorne Red is the color used for the studio models / box photography. It's been in the paint splatters and the Cult painting book.

hello, I'm completely new to minatures and 40k and have started a skitarri/ blood angels (Maybe.. not sure yet) force. I used Mephisto red in my figures:

GW uses Khorne red base for armour plates (Kataphron, Ironstrider) but Skitarii robes are Mephiston highlighted with Evil Sunz

Khorne red is the base for infiltaror/ruststalker armour
Basecoat khorne red
Wash with nuln oil
Layer with khone red
Layer with evil suns scarlet (around the edges)
Layer with fire dragon bright (around the edges)

Actually GW did Mephiston Red for the base coat. But they did it on top of a black primer so perhaps it came out a bit darker than you might expect.

Wait so they used mephiston red for the base coat? I bought the Khorne red spray, should I return it for mephiston red spray?

I guess it depends on whether you are trying to match exactly what GW did. I'm sure you could achieve a similar effect with khorne red undercoat and it will look fine.

Personally I always prefer to start with a black or white primer and manually paint everything else, unless it's a vehicle or something like a space marine that is almost entirely one color.
