After going to a local Games Workshop i saw a lot of advertisements for the new edition for Warhammer Fantasy. The advertisements are giving the date 11th July for the release and say it will be called " The Age Of Sigmar ". I asked the manager and he said that this will be the 9th edition and that " So big change's are happening " which sounds good but also worrying.
Along the lines of now the worlds gone what is left?
Mentions the Children of the Old Ones leaving the planet (Lizardmen)
a lost soul in the void (Sigmar?)
Can the dead die? (Nagash, Neferata and firends I guess)
and soem other bits i can't recall - someone will post the page I expect.

In the blurb at the last End Times book, where some mysterious figure was falling through the Warp or some such, wasn't their a ham-fisted "stared into the abyss and it stared back into him" line too?
If so.. I really wish they'd just stop.

I hope it is at least called Warhammer:The Age of Sigmar.
I always liked that even though 40k was the loved child of the company, it was still called Warhammer: 40,000, harkening back to its spiritual forebear.
And yeah... dat writing. With a stable full of talent in Black Library you'd think they would employ someone to write blurbs for the advertising team on their lunch break or something...
The LGS here just menitoned on their Facebook page that Warhammer Fantasy Battles is now discontinued and to get any Warhammer Fantasy stuff while you still can.
I wouldn't put it past GW to make you re-buy everything for the new game - but do they seriously think that people are going to say " Want to play Age of Sigmar?" instead of Warhammer?
Presumably will be tagged as Warhammer: Age of Sigmar.. what with them rebranding the stores to "Warhammer".
FLGA gave up on GW when they changed the T&C for the store ordering, that being the final nail, a lot of the wood provided by most of the locals having several armies and little desire to spend to build fresh ones

Sounds like your lgs is discontinuing their warhammer stock and trying to move it....

Ya that must be the case...unless they are talking about the individual army books (since there are the rumours of combined books)
Your flgs must just be just loosing interest in stoking fantasy because lack of interest maybe
No, they are going to carry Age of Sigmar. The place is Games Plus in Mount Prospect, IL and they've been there over 30 years. They have just about every board/tabletop game you can think of. Their post said that GW discontinued Warhamer Fantasy Battles and that they are going to carry the Age of Sigmar. And to get Warhammer while you could. If they said this, I highly doubt it is a case of them just not carrying fantasy anymore. It probably means that they heard from their distributor that GW has discontinued the line. This could still mean that GW could re-issue the discontinued stuff under the name Age of Sigmar. I'm guessing they are changing the packaging on the entire line to reflect the new name.
Well that's interesting, considering the actual GW stores are not discontinuing anything.....

I'd say it's a pre-emptive strike by the store. If the new release invalidates models, well, they're not holding a bunch of worthless models on stock that they can't get rid of. If nothing changes but the name, well, the store has managed to get some sales off of people fearing for the worst and they can just replenish stocks.

The GW stores can't discontinue anything until their company makes an official announcement. Not to mention that it would eliminate half the stock in their store. This could end up driving even more of the GW stores out of business. There is only one store left within a 100 mile radius of the greater Chicagoland area and that only open 5 days a week
The distributors are more powerful than GW and orders need to be made in advance to make sure that the product is delivered on time. I would hazard a guess that LGS and their distributors are more reliable than GW stores and probably know about the change already.

It's win-win for the store.
I know the guys at the store pretty well and they don't need to lie to make sales. If they say that it has been discontinued, then I believe them. The distributor probably told them what they know - most likely the store tried to order stock and were told it had been discontinued - it probably means that GW has stopped selling the line temporarily while they repackage. GW has been known to pull stock on individual armies right before a new army codex. If even half the rumors are true about this Age of Sigmar, they are probably pulling everything for a re-release and that would include a discontinuation of the old line.

Or they just bought into the same unconfirmed rumours that half the internet has, and are covering their bases in case GW pulls the plug on WHFB without recalling any of the stock.
From what I hear they've recalled all of the 8th edition books. Have heard nothing of the sort about models. Word on the street is Ravening Hordes 2.0.
Well they haven't "recalled" the 8th edition books but they did pull them from the shelves. If you ask for them they will get them for you (from the back) and sell it too you.

I'm pretty excited to see what comes out with 9th edition... Its an opportunity for new players to get involved, and I'm keen to jump back into fantasy with this edition as well - assuming it doesn't completely suck!
He said he has been instructed that he doesn't have to restock the old army books, but won't know anything else until the pre order date which is later this month I think.

My LGS was told by the GW rep that as of the Age of Sigmar release all other fantasy books would no longer be usable. He didn't say to pull it or that they would do a buy back just that they would no longer be playable in the new system. If this is the case and after buying the End Times books just to have them drop out of sight after less than a year it would probably be the final nail for our group with GW.

I'm with you here. Like many gamers I started with fantasy and still have a nostalgic love for it. I honestly could hardly tell you were I lost active interest in it. I always loved fantasy books the game just lost appeal and I can't really tell you why. I'm excited about 9th but sadly have little faith in the current GW management to pull it off. Fantasy requires more subtlety than 40k bolter porn it needs careful story and world building and I don't see that in GW but the end times gave me hope.
I do feel for the guys who love the game as it stands particularly if GW make a Horlicks of whatever is coming.

Which is why all the current rulebooks are being pulled, eh
The old meta is dead and the new meta struggles to be born. Now is the time of munchkins.
Could very easily be true that this is not 'warhammer:9' while still being a new system thats going to replace it with the same models.
Actually peaks my interest more, seems more revolution than evolution if the current army books won't work with it - it could be a very good thing to break with some of the baggage in the current rules. LotR showed GW can write a decent game when they want to... There is perhaps some evidence they can also write utter dross as well.
Sadly because of this age of sigmar, a ton of people are on a buying freeze, and it has been incredibly difficult to move models along.
I'm not in the camp of people who are excited: after all the money I have dumped into 8th.. if my stuff is invalid, I'll be done.
Thanks
Austin
Thought for the day: It is better to die for the Emperor than to live for yourself
Yeah, I have pretty basic armies for Empire and Orcs & Goblins that I want to get going but I have no idea what's happening with the entire game. It's frustrating...
