Unlike Eldar holofields or Tau disruption pods, camo netting on IG vehicles isn't some high-tech stealth generator but good old leaves and nets.
Such being the case, if you came across an IG player who has purchased camo netting for his vehicles but hasn't modeled it onto any, would it bother you?

As long as the player specifically states what models have it, I dont mind. Just put a counter on top of the camo tanks.

As long as it is included in the points total/army list and is made clear to me, I have no problem if the camo netting isn't WYSIWYG.
That said, modeling camo netting isn't exactly hard. If you're feeling really cheap, you can just cut out cheap green mesh and place it over the tanks, like with cotton balls and smoke launchers.

As long as you tell me at the start of the game which vehicles have it, it's not a big deal.
But if you model it, you'll get a high-five and maybe even a free drink!

My problem with camo netting is that it interferes with the aesthetic of the tank. Kinda like how chaos players need to nurgleize models if they give them the mark of nurgle.

IMO there needs to be at least some kind of representation, especially if some vehicles in your army have it and others don't. At least put a little sign saying "I have camo netting" next to each vehicle so it's clear.
Sir Arun wrote:My problem with camo netting is that it interferes with the aesthetic of the tank.
Exactly. I've spent a lot of time and effort on painting my tanks, I don't want to hide them under a giant sheet of "you can't see me".

I really don't care at all. Just tell me, "My tanks over here? They have camo netting." If I think I won't remember, I'll write it down on a piece of paper.

This is how I model camo netting on my vehicles:
Note the rolled up tarp on the top of the track guard just behind the turret? Yea, that's it. My army is based in a grey/ash waste theme
And most every vehicle has a grey tarp or some kind of grey covering rolled up/stored on them somewhere. Simple, easy, and represents it's there without hurting the aesthetic of the model.
That's how I do it anyway.
Take it easy.

This, in my mind, is a great way to represent it, making it heighten the aesthetics of the tank in a non-intrusive way.
But no, I wouldn't have any problem with you not modelling it if you feel it ruins your models. Throw a marker on there and we're good.

Maybe the camo netting is -so- good, it blends perfectly with the tank.
No, I don't expect someone to ruin a perfectly good IG tank model with camo netting draped all over it.
And to people who actually moan about such silly little things, I expect each and every one of their models to then be exactly modelled as their profile in the codex.
Squad has grenades on its profile? Why haven't they been modelled? No grenades for you.
Sidearms? (Bolt pistols and the like), not modelled? Same again!

I'd like a visual indicator. A token, a fruit net, a post-it, something. Just do it classily.
Permanently modelling an optional thing on there? I don't feel the need, as we don't all have that kinda funding.

You could just buy a stretch of fabric of something like this, cut out small parts and just drop them on the tanks at the start of the game as markers for camo netting.
Just keeping a little bit of it in your bag would be enough to appease the whiners, should they start crying about it.

Yeah I don't want to spend hours on a paintjob only to drape a piece of mesh over the top.
Regarding Mark of Nurgle, I've never ran into anyone who cared what the models are painted as vs. what marks they run. As long as it's stated or on their list I think it's pretty reasonable to change marks but not your paint. Kind of like not having to model a bolt pistol and CCW on every Chosen model, it would just look crazy anyways.

This ^^
Ok, we're drawing away from the specifics of Camo netting to a wider "modelling your upgrade" discussion, but I've every intention of running my Oblits with MoN when they see table time, despite my army being painted and modelled for Emperor's Children/Slaanesh. I pay the points, it's easy to reconcile in fluff (they're tougher because they need greater sensation to register any sort of pain) and I'll be clear to my opponent when deploying them.
Anyone who has an issue with that I prolly don't want to play anyways.

Here's the other problem with camo netting: Once you model it, you realise just how stupid the idea of a moving vehicle using camo netting us.

Well I mean, the alternative would just be camo paint or some such variant. Which also sounds ridiculous. I think it's more a matter of looks vs. playability. There's plenty of shenanigans you can equip units with that would look silly actually modeled. Like my earlier example of WYSIWYG regarding all HQ wargear shown. You would end up with some hulking monstrosity filled to the brim with weapons and gadgets.

I've never had issue with it.
Is there an actual bit for it that comes in the vehicle kits? If so, then in a tourney I'd like it modeled.
If, on the other hand, GW doesn't provide the bit, then I'm not going to demand someone have it.

So don't. It doesn't have to be draped over the entire vehicle, you just need something on there to indicate that it exists, so your opponent can easily tell which vehicles have it and which don't. In the same way, a sword doesn't have to be in the model's hand... WYSIWYG just requires it to be on the model, not currently in use.

So long as all similarly-painted vehicles are equipped with the camo netting, that shouldn't be an issue.

I tend to give it to most of them, because it's nice to have it generally, it all works well

I guess if you're super serious about it, you could make some of these and pitch them over your vehicles. You just sort of have to move it around with the vehicle.
