Hello! So I'm new to minatures and 40k and fell in love with the skitarri models. I've built and painted up a unit of vanguard and a unit of rangers (10 each)

I'm having trouble deciding on allying them with a blood angel force or a cult mechanicus force.

Please could people give positives and negatives for both armies when joined to the skitarri or any options?

Bear in mind I'm new so rules may need to be pointed out a little clearer I do have the skitarri codex and intending to by the 40k rule book tonight!

Thanks ever so much

Both. Nah, I'd go Cult Mechanicus.

I guess it depends on how hardcore you want to play. The Fleshtearers as a taxi-service makes the army clearly overpowered. It's considered a bit powergamey, and might not be popular in friendly games. Tournaments it will be the norm.

Cult Mechanicus is much more thematically correct and not so douchey, but still a very nice addition to your skitarii force.

So am I to take it that nothing have changed in regards to the drop pods with the release off the new SM codex ?
I had a faint recollection I read that somewhere, or it might just have been rumours.

Yeah I'm really still unsure xD I was worried at first about transport however it seems that they don't really need transport? And plus the cult robots look like they can dish out the pain

Not having transports is a clear weakness of the army, but it feels very thematic that they have that weakness. I wish allies didn't exist, because I like armies having strengths and weaknesses, instead of being able to plug it with another army's strong points.

Skitarii are very mobile. It's not as good as having transports themselves, but it makes them absolutely viable without transports.

Yeah I think I'd like to stick with the fluffy side of things and go the cult mech route.. I feel that they should be kept separate from space marines!

A way to combine skitarri and cult?

Problem I have is that I don't really know the rules so I'm completely unsure as to what models I should be buying :(

Would you want to field them using each of their respective detachments(Cult Mechanicus requires 2 Troops and an HQ while Skitarii require 2 Troops), or would you want to field any of their special formations?

I suppose just the basic detachments like two troops from each and a hq from cult? then push out from there ?

If your into fluff don't go Blood Angels. Admech and BAngels hate each other.

After them any other imperial force would be good but Cult Mechanicus would be most thematic.

That's actually something I haven't thought about, but absolutely true. The formation that breaks Ad Mech (flesh tearer drop pods) is HORRENDOUSLY unfluffy.

Ad Mech think Blood Angels are heretics (on a high treason level) for not sharing the (what they consider their holy right) blueprints for the Baal Predator.

I was talking about the Fleshtearers Dataslate.

You can read more about it here:

All it has done is enable you to take Drop Pods via Codex: Space Marines as well as Blood Angels and Space Wolves.

check this out. Cult Mechanicus DOES seem an obvious choice for allies.

If your looking for fluffy marine allies, Ironhands would be the way to go. Their chapter tactics and generally higher Toughness/AV add some durability that the skitarii by themselves lack. Add to that the transports available and I think they are a solid choice across the board.

I have been looking into the Iron Hands as allies since those fit the fluff p, at least way more then flesh tearers (I think that's the name).
Hmm, it does give some interesting choices
