New scouts get WS/BS 4. All their stats are the same except for saves being 4+.

and with no price changes to either tacts or scouts, this leaves scouts at a great advantage over tacts. If you want to infiltrate, take scouts. If you want to hang back and snipe, take scouts. Objective camp? scouts.

Want to move faster AFTER deployment? bike squad.

So... are tact squads going to be useless now?

Since you have to take them in the formation - and cant take scouts in it - nope!

The difference in saves should not be underestimated either nor should the lack of special weapons or even heavy weapons. Transports are also a factor when compared to scouts.

Glad to see SM scouts get BS4 WS4, It has always been fairly stupid that recon, one of the most difficult jobs in the military, that requires some of the best training and troops to do well, is considered the "training unit" for SM.

Yes, because everything else in this game follows real life army logic strictly.

Scouts were already good at WS/BS 3. Now they're a bit better, and they were already better than tacticals in a vacuum for their points in the large tourney meta.

The only things pulling tacticals into the light is drop pod spam, and now a bunch of free transports. Two list building tactics that are powerful enough to make up for the fact that they involve crappy troops.

Scout horde should be fun however tacticals with the right chapter tactic should be fun since they can tote the grav now. Massed bolter fire ( you will probably have 6 squads) will drop most things in time.

Tacticals are generalists and in a vacuum have everything. They can bully things in assault, see off units with bolters, use your favorite special/heavy with ease and now practically get their points in free razorback transport. You can die to a stiff breeze however so will your enemy after you set up 60+ guys.

3+ Armor is a 50% survivability increase over a 4+ for anything AP5 or worse. Which is most of the dakka in the game.

Tacs are still more elite than Scouts, and have a wider variety of options. But when push comes to shove, if you need small arms, Scouts are just so cheap for what they do.

If you need something more elite than Scouts, Tacs can do that. But whatever Tacs can do, Bikes can do better. Double Special *plus* a combi at 3 models. Troops as long as any HQ takes a bike - even in units of 3. T5. HoW.

Bikes shoot much better, move much better, chop much better, and survive much better. For a few more points.

Take Tacs if you want to play Space Marines. Maybe a Scout unit or two or a Bike unit or two. Take Tacs if you field a formation requiring it. If you want to win with a CAD, though, Tacs are even less viable comparatively than last book.

Tacs certainly didn't get worse. External-balance-wise, they are in a slightly better situation. But Scouts and Bikes got much better.
