Hi all,
Perhaps premature, but I wanted to start the discussion anyways.
I've been trawling through the various leaks of the new codex. I was planning to start a 2nd army, a drop-pod dreadnought force.
From what i've seen, the new codex invalidates this, as no MOTF means no dreads in heavy support. Yes I can take squadrons, but not if they take drop-pods.
So basically this would leave me with 3 dreads in pods, and no access to the sternguard or command squad I wanted. Apparently command squads moved to elites. I was planning on having 5 dreads in pods in my list, because while it may not be super strong, it's awesome as feth.
I can still do this, should Clan Raukaan remain a viable supplement. Any thoughts on if it will? I have just seen it has disappeared from the GW webstore. I do not take this to be a good sign, especially given their response to the Iyanden supplements axing.
EDIT - Clan Raukaan supplement appears to be available as Digital only. Perhaps this bodes well?

I got a message from GW digital on the games workshop app saying that sentinels of terra are legal with the new codex (with the usual restrictions and changes with relics and WLT), which would lead me to assume the same is said for Raukaan.

Doesn't really invalidate anything... you just might have to play Unbound to get what you want. Make sure your Warlord is selected from Clan Raukaan, thus making your Unbound Primary Detachment a Space Marines (Clan Raukaan) Faction. You'll get all the nice Clan Raukaan benefits. You just won't get any command benefits from Detachments.

Given unbound is shunned in some areas, this might be a better alternative. Although, I don't see how Clan Raukaan (or the Sentinels) could be invalidated by the new codex.

That does work for social games, however tournaments in my area usually have restrictions about how you're army is composed, Typically means a CAD or large army formation.
That said, the chatter about SOT being valid gives me hope I can still run this army how i'd like.

Well they eliminated the MoTF but gave Techmarines 2 wounds, which (if I recall) was really the only difference between the two. I know if you played me or anybody in my local area, you'd be OK with fielding your Clan Raukaan with the Techmarine instead.

Yeah, I imagine it'd be the same for social games where I play. I just want to have the option to take this army to a tournament should I wish.
The MOTF had a servo harness by default, the new Techmarine has to pay 5 melta bombs for it, other than that, same old.

The only thing that no MotF breaks is being able to take 3 Techmarines if you bring one. That's all the new codex breaks that I immediately see, but given it's not a mandatory thing I don't believe that stops Clan Raukaan from being used.

Good news OP!
If you field Vaylund Cal ( FW sons of medusa MoTF) you can now have your dreads in heavy AND field Sicarans, contemptors ect.!!!
And he uses Iron Hands Chapter tactics meaning you can take him in your IH army!

Hur, hur, hur, hur...
Vayland Cal + T5 5-man Grav Cannon Dev Squads in Drop Pods....
I mean, sure a bike gets you +1T for 7 points compared to 10 points, but it's not like you can take Devs on bikes.
Ally with Blood Angels to put Priests with them to give them FNP. T5 3+/4+++
I need to think on this.
And it's my understanding (unless it's been FAQ'd) that Cal is an Iron Thane - not MotF (his special rule prevents you from running a MotF or Chapter Master, it doesn't make him a MotF).

Man, I wish there was a real Black Library where I could get a Black Library Card and take out Black Library Books without having to buy them. Of course, late fees would be your soul. But it would be worth it. - InquisitorMack |
