So I'm not terribly used to games this small, but my local gaming shop is teaching a few people to play so we're playing a growing tournament thing for now (500 points this time, 750 next, 1,000 after that etc...). So I'm trying to show off some of the fun chaos-y stuff and how it doesn't all have to vehicles and cultists (my lists and fluff are much less vehicle and more hell/demon forge). So here's the first crack at it, thoughts?
Chaos Sorcerer - Ichor Blood, power weapon/plasma pistol (though I'm open to using those 15 points for something else)
Obliterator (1)
CSM (5) - close combat weapons x5, flamer
Cultists (10) - autogun x10, heavy stubber
Cultists (10) - flamer
Helbrute - twin-linked lascannon, missile launcher

Chaos Spawn are fun and chaosy, and 3 nurgle spawn only cost 108 points. 2 Oblits will do the same damage as a helbrute and be more versatile. A chaos lord makes whatever cultist squad he's attached to fearless. Ichor blood only works when you take a wound. So, not something that can be relied on. The way I would set up a fun, freindly CSM list at 500pts would be: CAD HQ Chaos Lord, PA, MoN, SoC, BP+PS - 120pts TROOPS 10xChaos Cultists, Flamer - 55pts 10xChaos Cultists, Autoguns, Heavy Stubber, Champ with Autogun - 64pts FAST ATTACK 3xChaos Spawn, MoN - 108pts HEAVY SUPPORT Obliterator, MoN - 76pts Obliterator, MoN - 76pts TOTAL - 499tps

"Because we couldn't be trusted. The Emperor needed a weapon that would never obey its own desires before those of the Imperium. He needed a weapon that would never bite the hand that feeds. The World Eaters were not that weapon. We've all drawn blades purely for the sake of shedding blood, and we've all felt the exultation of winning a war that never even needed to happen. We are not the tame, reliable pets that the Emperor wanted. The Wolves obey, when we would not. The Wolves can be trusted, when we never could. They have discipline we lack, because their passions are not aflame with the Butcher's Nails buzzing in the back of their skulls.
The Wolves will always come to the heel when called. In that regard, it is a mystery why they name themselves wolves. They are tame, collared by the Emperor, obeying his every whim. But a wolf doesn't behave that way. Only a dog does.
That is why we are the Eaters of Worlds, and the War Hounds no longer."

I like those suggestions, but don't have spawn yet (for some weird reason...though I'm getting to the point where they are the only non-vehicle thing I don't have...:( ) and kind of prefer tzeentch though I know I'm in the minority with that, especially blow for blow as the case is at this scale. The two obliterators would be fun, but hopefully curse of the new unit doesn't rake me over the coals as this will be the first game with them

Spawn are always fun and easy to convert since they don't have any set way they're designed to look. I went over this in another thread, but to summarize, one box of spawn plus a couple boxes of "dollar store toys", things like dinosaurs, sea creatures, etc, along with some green stuff and patience, you'll end up with easily 4 to 5 spawn. Mr_Piddlez wrote:Here are some of the spawn I use. Two are from the kit, the rest are scratch built. Sorry ahead of time for the crappy photo quality and crappy paint job. They're on my "repaint and renew" list and I just haven't gotten around to them yet. I hope they give you some ideas for making your own spawn. Tzeentch is OK, but at this points level, you'll get more mileage out of MoN. You can also run each one of the spawn individually since their your only FA slots, which means opponents have to devote all their unit's firepower to just one at a time instead of a unit of three. At 500 pts, all your bases are covered. A strong beat stick character, meat shields for objectives, decent antitank, and fast units to put the pressure on the opponent early. You could also swap the list around and bring a heldrake instead of the three spawn and an obliterator. But realistically, heldrakes have no business in a 500 pt game unless you just want to be TFG.

That is a cool idea for the spawn, I'll have to do a dollar store trip soon. Thoughts on other fast attack other than spawn and a heldrake, I'd like to have some, but haven't had wide spread success with talons (they get shot to hell before they're close enough to do much) and haven't played with raptors too much...

Raptors are just better. Talons lack grenades and die just like normal marines, so, they're not worth fielding. Plus you can give raptors special weapons so they can have a unified purpose. Realistically though, CSM bikers with the MoN are pretty top tier. You can replace two bikes TL Boltguns for special weapons instead of the BP on the bikers. So they get the same stopping power, speed, amount of attacks as a default bike squad with the added benefit of being T6. Add a MoN bikelord with a PF and LC and you have a very fast and effective death star.

Never field a CSM sorcerer without a spell familiar. It doubles the chance of a successful psychic phase.... Not too many armies can re-roll failed psychic tests. It is one of our strongest abilities.
ALWAYS put a spell familiar on a chaos sorcerer!!!

Sorcerers come with Force Weapons. Power weapons are WORSE versions of their standard equipment. Fix that and put the 15pts into Mark of Nurgle on the Obliterators.

I'd say a meltagun instead of a plasma gun on the raptors. Has an assualt profile and you want to assault with raptors. And I agree with SharkoutofWata, nurgle those oblits, let the Sorcerer keep his FW.
