The poor man really has a stake in the country. The rich man hasn't; he can go away to New Guinea in a yacht. The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all
We love our superheroes because they refuse to give up on us. We can analyze them out of existence, kill them, ban them, mock them, and still they return, patiently reminding us of who we are and what we wish we could be.

For a company that has a main setting of 38,000 years in the future, we're pretty behind the times when it comes to social media...

Well, you guys weren't when you had Facebook pages.

So this is a satirical Twitter account, right?

Oh, I don't normally look at twitter, but this could be absolute hilarity!

First laugh was seeing 'all your... Hobbit needs'. Yeah, right!

The 'jokes' are mildly diverting, though!

Is there any reason to believe this is not a joke account? They are pretty common.

I'm actually not entirely sure. With the first few tweets I'd say yes it's satirical, but after that it's been normal tweets about the new Space Marines codex... so I don't know what to think.

This was my first thought. Until there is a link to it on gamesworkshop.com, or even allusion to it in their What's new today (or whatever it is called), I will call it parody.

I guess we'll find out if it's real within the week. Shouldn't take longer than that to send out a Cease and Desist notice.

Oh man, imagine what it would mean if it is legit though?! GW going back to their old tongue-in-cheek outlook and not taking themselves so seriously?! That would be a great thing, in my mind.

Of course, that probably isn't the case and this poor schmuck will be slapped with a lawsuit...

Games Workshop wouldn't use a "GamesWorkshop1" for its Twitter handle, since they actually had numbered accounts set up for each of their shops.

Yep, it's now listed as 'unofficial and fan led', and an attempt to show GW what good community involvement/presence could do.

Which is actually a pretty good idea; if they've any sense they'll leave it up at this guy is doing free PR/promotion for them, but I'm guessing it'll be shot down in flames. Discussing models, slightly tongue-in-cheek adverts for new stuff (love the Ultramarine one: 'I'll give you a free tip, paint them blue!'), this is the kind of thing GW really could benefit from

To which GW will respond by sending an immediate cease-and-desist.

As it has happened every time customers have felt like giving support to their beloved plastic overlords.

I can't speak for the rest of you, but I'm of the opinion that they're doing pretty okay as it stands with social media. The individual shops have a Facebook and Twitter account, run by the managers of that shop.

Centralized social media accounts for the company were a terrible idea, as even before the whole "Spots the Space Marine" nonsense blew up, they got constantly spammed with trash posting about prices and other nonsense.

Some of the store-specific pages are great and have pics of stuff painted by staff and customers. Others are bare-bones and just have the standard new release stuff. So really, it depends on the individual page. Some are great, some are like they copied and pasted the emails we all get from GW.

In completely related news... Mephiston Red is back on the webstore with this description.

Back by popular demand, Mephiston Red Spray is designed to basecoat plastic, resin and metal Citadel miniatures. Sprayed over an undercoat, it's a fast way to get a uniform base of colour onto models. The colour in this spray is exactly the same as Citadel Base: Mephiston Red, so if any part of the model gets missed when spraying, a quick tidy up with the equivalent paint will provide a complete basecoat.

It must be a sign that...it sold well before?

I'm sorry, was there a big revelation there? Because checking what sells well and what doesn't is entirely different than market research to figure out what new things customers want. If GW couldn't manage to look at their sales and say "this sells well, we should make more kits for the demand " they would literally be out of business.
