You know, I was kind of trolling when I made that Proposed Rules thread... the idea was to see if people found it so objectionable with Sisters instead of Marines.

I didn't even see that thread. I'm using mine as counts-as Codex: Space Marines though and allying them with Space Wolves.

Of the rumours mentioned in the original post I think Deathwatch is the most likely. I think they can easily make them distinctive enough to warrant their own mini codex (if Legion of the Damned can have one with one unit then anything is possible...). Also, more importantly, it's more Marines, and we know how happy GW are to push that.

Horus Heresy - I was skeptical about this when it was first rumoured and I'm just as skeptical now. If this is coming out this year then I think we would have heard more about it by now. So no, I don't expect it this year.

Genestealer Cults - I have faith that we will see a Deathwatch vs Genestealer Cult game this year, with associated codices coming out simultaneously or soon after. Looking at what GW has done over the last year or so this seems like a very real possibility this year. Maybe my judgement is clouded since I would be willing to build both of these forces, hopefully it's not just that though...

Sisters - I want to believe that these are coming this year but unfortunately I can't see it happening. There's just too much confirmed / rumoured that I think is more likely to materialise.. Hey, there's always next year!

The upcoming Fantasy release will slow down 40K releases but I don't think it will halt them altogether. 40K is just too important to give it nothing for the next 6 months. If I were a betting man I would say that at the least we will see Deathwatch vs Genestealer Cult, an updated Tau codex, perhaps one or two other updated codices too. Time will tell.

I used a bunch of Grey Knights shoulder pads and other bits for my Deathwatch squad.

That is an amazing idea! Literally have boxes of GK bits from when it was actually my main army...

Has GW released a kit plus WD rules as a one-and-done thing, or have they all been precursors to a larger book release? Nid releases?

That would be the best way to get deathwatch out there. Upgrade sprue, like the new chapters ones, and then rules in WD. Either have their own formation (like assassins) or taken as an elite pick in all IOM armies, etc. Probably the former with the way GW works these days.

Or just rules for Chapter Tactics (Deathwatch) and have people just use the C:SM book.

Even if they do have a book, we are looking at a one week drop for them. This could show up at any point in the release schedule. The other things in this thread are going to need to span multiple weeks, so are less likely. Still possible, but less likely IMHO.

Plasma Obliterator and Void Shield Generator all come to mind - but those were one-off productions. 'Nids were a bunch of data-slates.
