Of all the chapters that should have been allowed to have Assault Marines charge the turn they deep strike, it probably should have been Blood Angels. Oh well.
But as far as drop pod chapters I think the best options are.
Salamanders with Vulkan
Imperial Fists with Pedro and Sternguard
Ultramarines
Black Templar

As an Ork player I love it when players try to Drop Pod against me.
Come closer, please. Send me your expensive Sternguard and Dreadnoughts so I can crump em at short range. Even your pods are a tasty snack to gnaw on; I'm glad you spent the points to feed yourself to my ravening green mobs a few at a time. Your Meltaguns and plasma and grav guns (oh my!) are basically wasted points when my oceans of t-shirts and AV10 vehicles are gonna die to humble bolters anyway.
Flamers hurt me, but you can rarely pack enough of them to wreck more than a single mob before I swarm you with choppas or drown you in dakka. I'll gladly eat the flamer casualties to charge your shooty Beakies for gud ol' fashioned hand-ter-hand beatdown.
Too bad it doesn't work that well on the tabletop these days...(sigh).
My two cents.

BA and "really good" can't be put in the same sentence with this new marine codex running around.
BA are a poor drop list imo due to the lack of synergy with their chapter tactics. BA firepower is mediocre for a variety of reasons and this doesn't bolster the drop pod approach.

I hate to agree, but BAs stuff is geared more towards jump pack assault units. Our pod units arnt remarkable enough to warrant a appearance on "The Best Drop Pod Chapter" list. Are they terrible? No, but there certainly not good at it.
In fact, we dont have any chapter tactics. Theres just furious charge on most of our units, no actual chapter tactics. This doesnt aid in deep strike landing, surviving the enemys counter attack, or any ranged weapon accuracy.

Yup true for now. Im going to venture a guess that either an update or FAQ will be following eventually to allow it.

My vote is going to be imperial fists
Centurion Devastators with Tank hunters can get a Pod as FA if you run a CAD.
Also Re-roll ones on the AP3 gets hot shots (forgetting the name at the moment) is awesome
RAW wise, Space pups and smurfs are the same chapter. You don't lose your CT.

By RAW of the new SM codex you belong to a chapter only if you have the chapter tactics rule.
BA, SW, DA and GK do not have it. So they do not belong to a particular chapter.
You get to use chapter tactics as long as there is no model in the unit from a different chapter, but chapterles models are fine.
Fluff wise this is horrid, rules wise this is unfortunately extremely clear.
We can hope for a FAQ.

Yes, this. That is why I went with Crimson Fists due to wanting a sternguard focused army. In regards to the bolter drill, I heard somewhere that in the new SM codex sternguard special ammo is now part of bolter drill (not 100% though until I have the new SM codex in my hands)
Another army that is up there as a good Drop pod one are Space Wolves. Grey Hunters packed full of special weapons is pretty effective. Blood Angels do it pretty well too if you load them with lots of melta and flamers.
If I had to choose, it would be between Crimson Fists and Space Wolves.

In terms of whats been said about the Raven Guard it depends if you run them as 30k or not.
Two it also depends if where you game has common sense house rules like we do where I game that allow you to assault out of drop pods but not if arriving via teleportation.

You allow people to assault out of Drop Pods? How is that common sense? That would totally change Drop Pod tactics.

Read any fluff or story about space marines and you'll see why, its what drop pods are designed for!!! When you come down in one you are in a stabilization harness to keep you up right and retros get fired to soften your landing, also you weapons are in your hands, so your ready for war. Have you read any of the Novels?
Your honestly saying that a gene enhanced warrior with decades of combat experience cant swing a sword because hes coming out of a enclosed space? Its a stupid argument to not allow assault.
Your right it changes drop pod tactics so they can be used properly. Its one reason people prefer older editions of 40k as it allows this and its system is better to game with as it reflects war in Warhammer 40k more accurately

As long as you and your group enjoy your games, all is good.
From a game system point of view I'd argue the DP functions well as it is now - it launches an alpha strike based on ranged units, who will then proceed to gain ground. That DP can also claim objectives is another thing they have for them though they shouldn't really, as its just a huge piece of junk on the ground once landed.

I definetly like the idea of SMs assaulting out of a pod. How powerful, or overpowered it is I don't want to try and figure out here. I just see it as very appropriate & cinematic for SMs. As a fighting force they really live or die by thier initial strike. They have to hit hard & keep hitting or get bogged down & die. Being able to fire all thier weapons, as with Relentless followed by an assault would represent that very well. Especially for Tac squads. With an exra ccw it would really be cool looking & I believe effective too. Of course how over powered it would be....meh.

Honor guard are a thing. And there's nothing stopping terminators from coming down in a pod now. So 5 TH/ SS terminators could impact, get out, and charge whatever they wanted without recourse.
Fluffwise - it takes a genehanced superhuman to be able to be placed in a metal box and dropped from orbit without turning into paste.
