Subject: [1500] - Grey Knights - NSF - Stormraven or not ?

Not really ever liked the Stormraven – too expensive in my opinion for what it provides. I also play Maelstrom, and it’s 200pts in my list that can’t score.
I regularly play against double Flyrant Nids, Space Wolves with a Stormwolf, and Orks with a couple of their flyers – so sort of feel as though I have to take one.
Is it better to focus on ground units instead ?
In the context of lists at 1500 (using NSF) :-
Librarian
5x GKT w/ Hammer, Psycannon
5x GKT w/ Hammer, Psycannon
5x GKT w/ Hammer, Psycannon
5x GKT w/ Hammer, Psycannon
Stormraven
Dreadknight w/ Teleporter, Sword, H.Psycannon
Dreadknight w/ Teleporter, Sword, H.Psycannon
Librarian W/ ML3
5x GKT w/ Hammer, Psycannon
5x GKT w/ Hammer, Psycannon
5x GKT w/ Hammer, Psycannon
5x GKT w/ Hammer, Psycannon
5x Interceptors w/ Incinerator
Dreadknight w/ Teleporter, Sword, H.Psycannon, H.Incinerator
Dreadknight w/ Teleporter, Sword, H.Psycannon, H.Incinerator
Removing the Raven gives me ML3, squad of Interceptors and Heavy Incinerators for my Dreadknights.
Thoughts ?

Considering your meta, yea you should probably take the Stormraven.
But you should also consider dropping one of the terminator squads for Personal Teleporters on the Dreadknights. ESPECIALLY since you play maelstrom. I think that might even open up enough points to get you the interceptor squad, as well

The NDKs have Teleporters, forgot to list them - edited my post now. So used to always taking them that I forgot to list them !
Thanks for your comments. I guess I'm leaning towards the Stormraven - not sure how useful it will be though

If there's no reason to not have 2 NSF, you might consider splitting it into 2 for an extra Dreadknight without losing Turn 1 Deep Strike.
NSF: 755pts
135: Librarian: ML3
190: Terminators: Meltabombs, Psycannon
215: Dreadknight: Teleporter, Heavy Psycannon, Heavy Incinerator
215: Dreadknight: Teleporter, Heavy Psycannon, Heavy Incinerator
NSF: 745pts
135: Librarian: ML3
195: Terminators: Hammer, Psycannon
215: Dreadknight: Teleporter, Heavy Psycannon, Heavy Incinerator
200: Stormraven: TL Lascannon, TL Multi-melta

Thanks. I don't think I'm overly bothered about loosing NSF to take three Dreadknights.
I think NSF is most useful for Terminators, and if i'm only taking 2-3 units of them I'll either start them on the table, or deep strike them from turn 2+

First, Stormravens are fantastic gunships. I run multi-melta, assault cannon on mine typically. It's always nice to have a POTMS multi-melta to blast some armor, and four missiles and an Assault Cannon are nothing to sneeze at. Plus, that thing is tough to knock out of the sky, and is usually hovering over objectives end game either denying or scoring for me.
As to the NSF, yes losing OBSEC is big on your troops but the tactial flexibility it brings is fantastic. Yes your DKs can teleport, but against an Alpha Strike army (and there's lots of people building Alpha strikes lately), the ability to null deploy is crazy useful. Remember, just because you CAN deepstrike in turn 1 with the NSF, doesn't mean you have to. It gives you the option.

Stormravens can't score/contest, at least with objectives on the ground if I remember rightly. Their hull needs to be 3" away, and with the normal flying stand they're beyond this.

I've never seen anyone use this rules interpretation. I think the BRB says to use the Flier's base for determining distances but maybe that was an old rule.

Yup, you use the base. Have to drop down into hover though.
