What was GW thinking?

He comes equipped with a laspistol and close-combat weapon and... get this... can take a shotgun for free.

What was the point of not including it in his basic wargear again?

It's also funny how it's also the only weapon not listed in the reference at the back.

GW's like "derp...autogun? AM doesnt have that."

Has GW made such hiccups in other codexes?

Yewh its the same as regimental advisors being able to swap their chainswords for laspistols for free which you should always do and they should have had in the first place.

Yep in CSM codex you may take "Veterans of long war" for Dark Apostle for free. This rule cost for any other model.

In the imperial guard codex the autogun doesn't replace any thing, you can just choose to take it for free

It's free because it does nothing for the Apostle, he already hates everyone and has max Ld.

I think it has to do with the inquisitorial and sisters priests having krak grenades, while the imperial guard priests don't.
However inquisitorial and sister priests have to swap a weapon for the autogun.

No, that's a special character who has a special (S4 AP4) shotgun. :p

Its so that people who build their own priests can create priests without autoguns, rather than trying to source a (actually rather difficult to acquire) bit.

Real priests uses shotguns, flamethrower and/or eviscerator. Any other weapon are not metal enough.

There is of course a specific exception for giant flaming thurible morning star/flail/…

Urian Jacobus is not a special character in Codex Astra Militarum. The option allows the model to be used WYSIWYG as a Ministorum Priest from that codex.

I don't think that's the reason they made Jacobus any more than they made any other Special Character for your to proxy him as another model in another army.

I didn't say that's why they made Jacobus, but why they gave the Ministorum Priest the option to take a shotgun.
