Havent had much chance to read the new codex yet but with the free Transport Formation, Centurion Devs transports are actually Land Raiders, so with two units of Cent Devs would we get two free Land Raiders?

Can you take Centurions in that formation?

The Company Support rule to which you're referring specifies only units which may take a Rhino, Razorback or Drop Pod may take one for free.

Cheers, I thought it was too good to be true. Still, free Razorbacks/pods on up to 10 units is excellent. Looking forward to reading the codex cover to cover.

Yeah, it works out to be about 50% of the units' base value in free transports, so for 1110pts worth of Battle Company you end up with 1660pts of models on the table. Bit ridiculous.

At the most ridiculous level, you can take barebones tacticals, assaults without jump packs, devs with heavy weapons and a captain/chaplain for 440 points. That makes a full company for 880 points. You can then get 10 free razorbacks, total value 550 points. There would then still be 120 points left to spend on heavy weapons, something for the captain and to upgrade a few razorbacks.

Totally balanced and fair.

Yes, though you must pay for the upgrades.

And yeah, it's actually almost 65% the base value of the units. As Fifty says, you can take the minimum Battle Company for 880pts and you'd get 550pts worth of transports out of it for free.

He's saying you could have 1500 points in a 1000 point game, except he's not quite right. He didn't account for an auxiliary formation for the gladius, and the battle company MUST BE in a gladius. You can't get it just by taking two Demi-companies as two formations.

Same deal here. Minimum is actually 1045. You MUST run gladius to get it, which means you MUST take an aux selection.

No one is arguing that, but their are some downsides. Auto losing any mission based on kill points is one. Limiting yourself to half the units in the book is another. Plus the auxiliary formations you can afford aren't great.

Actually, if you want 10 free transports, the minimum is about 995 pts - 2 demi-companies, plus the Scout formation.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

Incorrect

Total for captain, chaplain, 6 bare 5 man tactical squads, 2 bare assault squads and 2 bare devastaror squads is 880.
Cheapest Auxiliary is the 10th company detachment, 3 squads of bare scouts is 165, for a total of 1045.

Yeah you can get 8 free transports for 50 points less which is I think what Happyjew was talking about. Just take Land speeders as the ASMs.

You can save yourself 3 points by getting scout bikes instead of scouts

Sorry, I screwed up. It's 990.
2x Demi-company (880)
1x Suppression Force (110).

Suppression Force requires 2 Whirlwinds.

The supression force requires 2 Whirlwinds, so your list would be 1055pts

Does it? I thought it was just 1 unit of Whirlwinds and 1 unit of Landspeeders. At least according to the screenshot I was shown.

While that's true, the Formation Restrictions say the unit of Whirlwinds must be at least 2 strong.

Restriction forces unit to include at least 2 whirlwinds. Only way to fit in for under 1k is with Land speeders.

Apologies then. My friend (who sent the screenshot) only sent the Gladius portion, so I assumed the Suppression Force was a Gladius-only formation.
