A man has been decapitated and several others injured at a factory in France in what President Francois Hollande has called a terrorist attack.
Two men drove into the Air Products gas factory factory near Lyon, officials said, before several explosions were heard.
One of the suspects, a 30-year-old who was known to police, has been arrested.
The dead man was found with Arabic inscriptions on him and an Islamist flag was found near the site.
Live updates: France beheading attack
At a press conference from Brussels, Mr Holland confirmed that two attackers had targeted the chemicals factory in Saint-Quentin-Fallavier, crashing into it in a car.

"We have no doubt that the attack was to explode the building. The attack bears the hallmarks of a terrorist attack," he said.
Referring to terror attacks in Paris in January, he said: "We all remember what happened before in our country."
Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve has arrived at the scene, and Mr Hollande said he will leave the EU summit in Brussels this afternoon and return to France.
The attack occurred around 10:00 local time (08:00 GMT), according to local media.
According to French regional newspaper Le Dauphine Libere, a man was seen driving back and forth in front of the target building earlier this morning.

French Prime Minister Manuel Valls has ordered that security be stepped up at sensitive sites around Lyon.
Alain Juppe, the mayor of Bordeaux, took to Twitter to condemn the attack.
"The terrorist threat is at a maximum," he said, adding that France "must make every effort to protect its citizens".
The attack comes nearly six months after Islamist attacks in and around Paris that killed 17 people.

From the way they are downplaying the "Explosions" im wondering if their bombs either fizzled or the actual explosions were caused by them crashing into something volatile.

Or the bombs/IEDs didn't cause any further reactions. Depends what the section of the factory had in it, not everything would be volatile.

Apparently, a decapitated body was found, with Arabic writing found on a severed head pinned to the factory gates...

The factory is US owned so that's more than likely the reason they picked that out as a target.

Very possible. Jihadi's at it again. I think the world should come together and force everyone Imam and Mullah in their respective countries to publicly state they are against Jihadis and the radicalization of Islam. Otherwise we are going to have these style attacks forever.

It takes a special sort of dedication to ignore the monopoly the Islamic faith has on religiously-inspired mass-casualty international terrorism these days...

Anyway, best wishes to the victims' families...really a senseless waste of life.

It happened close to where I am now . Too bad for the poor person that was decapitated, but apparently that is the only casualty. Those terrorists were, or this terrorist was (apparently not sure already) a big noob. But decapitating people is really nasty. Maybe they will be able to fix his/their mind(s). Not holding my breath though.

I can fix his mind easily, its called a 5.56mm to the dome.

Nobody here said the US was the center of the world either, it was just a coincidence that it was a US factory

I guess I am barbaric, I don't see a point in "Fixing their minds". If they thought out and planned a terrorist attack then re-education isn't the answer. Yes some people can be helped and yes they should be given the opportunity but jesus at what point do we stop trying to PC the hell out of everything and just realize that in this world some people are just scum bags and deserve to die.

That is not fixing. That is giving up on trying to fix. Anyhow, why this caliber specifically?

Because that's the "standard" round used by many armed forces around the world, particularly NATO countries, the US included.

Anyhow, While this is terrible news, and I genuinely feel bad for the families going through this, I am no longer surprised by any of it.

Sadly, I think that Ghazkuul's "Fix" only serves to exacerbate the problem, and yet with this kind of extremism, there really is no "re-education" for many. A lot of these people who commit these acts are trained and brainwashed from the time they are 2 and 3 years old to hate the West, and particularly hate the US.

Honestly usually they are not so different from your own nutcase that killed all those black folks. They are usually from an environment were there is sometime some hate, but they do radicalize by themselves on top of it too.

The best way to combat radical Islam is to promote a system of literacy throughout the Islamic world and then to show them that nowhere in the Koran does it say to kill all non Muslims. But since that will also never occur because of many different reasons, the 5.56 seems the best solution.

Ahah no.
“We” need to show “them” that what the Quran says is irrelevant. This is what the world need. Seriously, how terrible would European countries be if they still looked in the Bible to see what is right and what is wrong. People everywhere should stop to looking into “sacred” book to learn to distinguish between good and bad. The sooner the better.

I am pretty sure your country did not look into the Bible to realize allowing gay marriage was right, did they?

That fix will only make them martyrs, inspiring other mindtwisted people to follow. Lock them up and forget them instead. Let's see if they manage to start thinking again when their friends don't come to spring them from prison.

Literacy in the Middle East is actually relatively high, at least among men. Moreover, the people who commit terrorist acts tend to be well educated, and multilingual. The issue isn't literacy, its alienation.

Somewhere in south-central England.

Another cause is sectarian factionalism between different strands of Islam. This promotes the maintenance of local militias with stocks of weapons, training and a sense of religious grievance. If Sunnis can be persuaded to blow up Shias, and vice versa, it isn't very difficult for them to make the step to blowing up Christians, Jews and atheists.

Literacy rates in Iraq is around 80%, Syria is around 86%. From first hand experience I can tell you that a lot of the "Martyrs" are the poor who are educated by Mullahs and Imam's who teach them a radicalized version of Islam. they are unable to know the truth because they can't read the Koran and believe an Imam would never lie.

These are the suicide bombers you see all the time on the news. (Usually).

Furthermore, I would personally love to see the end of Islam in the same way that happened to Christianity in Europe. But it won't ever happen. You can call Islam the religion of peace as much as you like, but it will never make it true.

So after the beheading the attacker appears to have posed with the severed head, and taken a selfie...

http://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-33301733

The man suspected of an attack on a factory in France sent a selfie where he posed with the severed head of his boss, security sources say.
Yassin Salhi, 35, reportedly sent the photo to a Canadian mobile phone number via the WhatsApp messaging service after Friday's attack near Lyon.
His boss Herve Cornara's head was found alongside Islamic flags.
The suspect is accused of ramming a vehicle into an area containing flammable liquids, causing a blast.
Police have so far not found any motive or possible foreign connection, prosecutors say.
In response to the attack, President Francois Hollande held a security meeting with ministers on Saturday.
Prime Minister Manuel Valls cut short a visit to Latin America to return to France which is on its highest state of alert after the attack in the small town of Saint-Quentin-Fallavier some 40km (25 miles) from Lyon.
Yassin Salhi had been investigated in the past about his alleged links with Islamist militants.
Officials and residents of Saint-Quentin-Fallavier gathered outside the town hall on Saturday morning to observe a minute's silence.
'Suspect speaking'
Investigators are still trying to establish the identity of the recipient of the selfie. They were unable to immediately confirm media reports that it was an unspecified person now in Syria, AP news agency reports.
The agency quoted the Paris prosecutor's office as saying the suspect had begun speaking to investigators after initially keeping silent.
Mr Salhi was arrested at the Air Products factory on Friday morning.
Anti-terror police searched the apartment of the father-of-three in Saint-Quentin-Fallavier, taking his wife and sister into custody.
It is alleged he was waved through the gates of the factory because he was a regular delivery driver.
The severed head of Mr Cornara was found placed on factory railings. It is unclear when he died.
'Heated arguments'
President Hollande said: "We have no doubt that the attack was to blow up the building. It bears the hallmarks of a terrorist attack."
US-owned Air Products makes gases and chemicals and has employees in 50 countries around the world.
Chief Executive Seifi Ghasemi said: "I believe I speak for all of our Air Products family around the world in expressing our deepest sympathies to the family of the victim of this unspeakable act."
According to a report in the French newspaper Le Figaro (in French), a friend of Herve Cornara witnessed heated arguments between the delivery firm boss and his employee "several times".
Mr Cornara, 54, is said to have been a well-known figure in the town of Fontaines-sur-Saone. He led a tenants' association and campaigned for better amenities in the area.
"He fought with local authorities when the heating wasn't working," another friend recalled, speaking to AFP news agency. "He got involved in the campaign to save the post office."

Yep, and those are both relatively high. If you want to see truly low literacy you need to look at Africa.

It isn't that they can't read the Koran, most of them probably can. The issue is that they only have a few sources of commentary on it, most of which generally agree. And lets be honest here, what is specifically written in the Koran is far less important than how it is interpreted, as is the case with any holy book.
