It takes a special sort of dedication to ignore the monopoly the Islamic faith has on religiously-inspired mass-casualty international terrorism these days...

Anyway, best wishes to the victims' families...really a senseless waste of life.

On the other hand, Muslims in Bosnia were victims of a genocide campaign that only ended when the West came in to stop it. I'm sure we could Google examples back and forth to prove our points to each other, but the bottom line in my opinion is that the atrocities start when men hate what they perceive as evil more than they love God.

I don't know that I'd want to cite the war in Kosovo to prove your point...in that case the KLA (an Islamic terrorist organization) really kicked off the hostilities and the civilians paid for it, and it's not as if they were angels. They were murdering Serb civilians at the same time, trying to "cleanse" Kosovo of Serbs. There's a lot of back and forth on that one, and many people believe we were supporting the wrong side.

As I said, we could go back and forth on this one, but it boils down to people interpreting their religions in a dick fashion.

go check out the list of UN recognized Terrorist organizations. about 1/2 are Islamic in nature, 1/4 are communist in nature and the remaining 1/4 are a bunch of different things. *rough numbers*

I think its fair to say that Islam is the most violent religion, at least in modern times.

It still forms a fine basis for policy-making, especially when nobody else can provide a reasonable third variable to consider.

Poverty, resentment towards the west for our involvement in Iraq, lack of education, resentment towards the west becasue our entire way of life is built on exploiting others.

Oh, right, I forgot, those all don't count because structures don't exist and the only thing that matters is individual actors. Carry on then.

Some do, just check the UN list.

That would be fine, except that many Islamic terrorists are well-educated and come from well-to-do families.

There are plenty of poor people in the world with a bone to pick with the West. Last I checked, the only ones sawing heads off and holding stereotypical bad-guy decathlons that would make Cobra Commander blush are the Muslims.

Seriously, how terrible would European countries be if they still looked in the Bible to see what is right and what is wrong.

I am pretty sure your country did not look into the Bible to realize allowing gay marriage was right, did they?

1. I agree

2. You'd (Europe) would look a lot like the US

3. No, the people who came to that ruling did not look to the bible (thank whoever you'd like for that!), but the response from those who think we should be arse deep in it are crying even louder seemingly than before.

North Korea? I mean, they're not sawing people's heads off, they're executing people by mortar, but still.

There's also the fact that Saudi Arabia, which DOES have money and education (as you correctly point out) has a crazy, fundamentalist view of Islam that they're aggressively pushing on the rest of the Middle East.

But the nations they generally come from are not especially well-to-do.

I am usually including the U.S. into Europe. Except for those people from the Amerindian nations. Those are Americans, not Europeans. Tiny proportion of the U.S. citizens, though.

Yeah, but people are not telling them “We should do it because [whatever silly interpretation of the Bible]”. They just answer “We should do it because it is the right thing, and we do not care what the Bible says about that. If the Bible truly says it is wrong, then the Bible is wrong”.
And seriously, I doubt even in the U.S., many people are actually willing to follow what is in the Bible. They will just put the Bible forward when it happens to agree with their views, but so many rules they do not want to apply…

Depends. Many Saudis, for instance.

Second generation Muslims living in the West? Saudis? UAE citizens? Not sure I can buy poverty alone as a reasonable third variable. Consider also that India has just as much of a poor class as Pakistan and is in many ways similar - where are all of the Indian terrorists?
