DA codex is a glorified space marine codex where the best list is a demi-company. So now we are play green space marines, makes me feel like the book might as well go the way of the black templar book.
Only on the surface. There are different units available once you get past the basics. Cents,
TFCs, Black/Death Knights, Flyers, Formations beyond the mix and match Gladius/Lion's Blade. It's actually in a pretty decent flavor position right now. As a Space Marine chapter they can do the basics. Then they diverge into their uniques. They're far and away ahead of
BT and
BA on the balance between unique and shared traits/units/costs/etc.
I'm also not convinced the best list IS a demi-company. The Ravenwing or Combi-wing are both tugging at the back of my mind. Two flamers in the entire army. 50ish models plus the vehicles. The
Devs are 5 man squads in Rhinos?
I think you're putting more emphasis on full
BS overwatch than it deserves.
Why Pod the assault marines? They're the only ignores cover you've got. Keep the packs so they can hop around more than once.
Other than the fact that you have to have one of each to take two demi-companies what does your Master and Chaplain do?
The second Demi Company gets you the free transports. What does trading it in for a different aux unit, and using the scouts plus some to pay for some of the transports. Or do you have to drive to the ones on your side of the table?
The other AUX units are ObSec as well.
One Demi Company, 3 Ravenwing Support Squadrons to go Obsec three objectives on the other side of the field, 9HP's of ObSec with an X++ rerollable Jink on each of his objectives? How many turns will it take to displace each squadron? So if you've got your 3 with
tac squads who are vulnerable, but too far away for him to go after AND get his three with the Ravenwing on them. If you're looking to win a war of ObSec Attrition, that sounds better than Rhino Rushing.
Edit to Add: If you don't want to spam RSS, mix in some Death Wing.
DP in some teleport homers turn one,
DWA turn two onto the objectives with some Storm Shields, There are a LOT of choices for more survivable objective campers on the other side of the board than a 5 man
tac squad that has to drive over there.
