Ouch, I couldnt watch to the end. Painful, silly, tedious.

Hey Reece, long time fan of your channel but I've noticed the older short-format reports (which originally made me hit that subscribe button) are increasingly being phased out in favour of these full length vids. I know that many people prefer to see the whole game, but I just don't have 3 hours to watch other people play. Any plans to release some more short-format vids?

You are not the first person to express this sentiment, and we understand. A lot of folks really like seeing the complete game and put them on while painting, etc. however a lot of folks that liked our shorter form videos don't care for the longer ones.

The issue for us, is that we have moved our focus over to live streaming games through Twitch, and we only have a certain amount of time per week to film and play games. It takes just as long to make a short form video bat rep as a full length video bat rep but we actually make money from Twitch, whereas ad revenue from YouTube is negligible, so from a business perspective it doesn't make sense to focus on the version of the videos that really doesn't do as much for us as the longer ones do. That said, we do want to keep putting out the shorter bat reps, we just haven't devised a way to use the footage from the full length games to make a short and long version of the game, just yet, but are working on it. We think we have it worked out, but haven't perfected it, yet. It is something we are working on, though and you can expect to see them making a comeback sooner than later.

Aww was hoping to see the Skyhammer in its full glory. Seems like taking away that first turn from the Marines was pretty much the only way to go for you.

Pablo did the classic http://imgur.com/a/V0gND which is actually the first time I've ever seen it in a batrep, so was still pretty entertaining.

Hate to say it, but Pablo is my least favorite personality to show up in FLG batreps.

Hey Reece.

I loved your guy's old batreps as I could watch them in my limited spare time and pay enough attention that I got a good idea what happened. These new ones I can put on while I grade lab reports for my gen chem course but this also means I often loose track of what happened. Would it be possible to get end of turn recaps and perhaps thoughts on strategy. That was my favorite part of the old videos as it gave me an idea of what you guys were thinking and why you made the decisions you did.

For example I would have liked to understand what thought process was behind avoiding the skyhammer alpha strike as from the vid it looks like you could have put pablo outside range of your important stuff with the 50 infantry models, one group of which could be fearless (thus immune to the skyhammer's abilities) and the other group could intercept the units that almost assuredly would have had to land within 12" to matter. The skyhammer was actually more of a debuff and distraction force in Pablo's list than an actual damage dealer according to my estimate he would have done less than 300 pts in damage if you started on the board while you would have been able to immediately retaliate against his relatively low durability army. I assume that you believed you could tank shock your way out with little difficulty and perhaps let the hype get to you a little making you more wary of the alpha strike than necessary.

I actually kind of liked your AsCent "Star". It is kind of a neat unit. Have you considered cypher instead of the chapter master to complement it? He would give hit and run, overwatch, a decent number of attacks, and shrouded to make the unit even tougher.

Phew, that is the first full length battle I have actually watched the majority of -- partly a slow day at work, partly the personalities at play, and partly the incredulity of the game as it unfolded.

Liked the unit rundown, curious to know who the overall MVP would be -- maybe yarrick or the culexus?

Cheers

I agree. That tank shock argument was the worst. He dang well knows how tank shock works but since it matters he is being picky about it. But that isn't the least of it. I have seen these guys at tournaments all over and if they play someone who doesn't know the rules as well as reece does they take serious advantage. Some examples were attempting re-roll wounds as a benefit of a doctrine, saying the old "templates don't work out of a rhino because it would be on the vehicle yadda yadda", being goofy about who rolls to end the game, assaulting the celuxus, and a lot more.

The only thing worse than playing guys like him are people who make up joke rules and if you don't call them out on it try and do it.

I liked the batrep, though, the long format is good, I say.

Hey Reecius, I was watching a game of yours a few days back where you played an ork army against the other guy's marine "freebie" detachment spam to see if was overpowered to get that extra 300pts worth of stuff in a standard sized game. The video cut out at the end when the marines looked like they outnumbered the orks two to one at least and he was just mopping up the last greenskins and then latter in the day the video disappeared. Will that one be coming back up sometime? I'm curious to see how lopsided the victory was for the marines in the end.

Hey Reecius, keep up the full-length batreps, they're worth watching. You could do turn summary type stuff to make the short form reps? Also, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE show the lists as texts at the start of every game... that's really useful!

I'd say worry less about showing the dice rolls - but make sure players specify what they're shooting at what, and maybe just read out number of hits/ number of wounds/ number of saves or models removed?

Some form of tactical debrief at the end of the game would also really help, for us n00bs

I really respect the work and effort you guys put in, wish we had something similar over here in the UK!

Hey guys, thank you so much for all the constructive feedback, we really appreciate it.

We can definitely look at doing an end of turn recap, but it would be hard to do during the live show, it would be awkward.

One idea we had was to rip video off of just the overhead camera and then speed it up and have the players narrate what's going on to show the game in a condensed format.

@Warboss

We will have 1-2 short form video bat reps coming in from the old shop and some of our teammates, actually. We want to get them in rotation but we're struggling with time management at the moment.

Also, in that Orks vs. Battle Company bat rep, the Orks won quite handily, actually. We will get that video up online again, we've been having some internet issues and some of the bat reps haven't been uploading completely.

Reece, thanks for being so active and responsive, you guys are doing great work!

Love the sound of a sped up, narrated batrep format, I would watch that every time.

Someone mentioned the dice cam -- it can be interesting from time to time, but mostly I would prefer a top view or battlefield perspective. Plus it is really hard to even see what the dice are sometimes anyway.

Again, great stuff, looking forward to more. Keeping my fingers crossed for a Mighty Mighty Footdar redux. You can do it!

Thanks for the feedback! And yes, the Mighty, Mighty Footdar are making a comeback! I think the new list will actually be pretty competitive, too!

Yeah, the dice are difficult to show, we're going to experiment with some alternate options but mostly, I think we just need some really easy to see dice under a dedicated dice cam. We've tried picture in picture, but sometimes it is very difficult to read the dice in the smaller window. We'll work it out. It's just challenging to portray what's going on in a bat rep as so much of it is in your mind. It is certainly proving to be an art to convey the game.

Glad you've been enjoying it all, though!

@Reecius,

As a long-time fan of the Culexes, I thought you were going to punish Pablo for leaving a gap for you to bring the Assassin on first; a -3 LD penalty to the tank-shocked units would have seen those scouts running at the beginning, plus could have been useful later in forcing units out of that corner. Good game to watch, a shame about the nature of some rules arguments, but it does happen in competitive 40k all over

Is it me or does Reece loathe playing against Pablo?

@Nightrunner

The Culexus' -3 ld only works on Psyker, but yeah, would have been awesome!

And we did have a rules argument, but it's all good, as you noted, it happens. Was still a very enjoyable game.

@Johnnytorrance

Not at all, Pablo is one of the nicest people I have ever met. I enjoy playing him, we just had a rules argument in this one which may have made it seem that way.

I watch a lot of video batreps, and would I recommend (just what I like) is to do something like what miniwargaming does, by which I mean editing out some of the dice rolling and model moving.

Thanks for the feedback! Yeah, chopping up the videos to edit some of the material out helps a lot, but with our format, that is rather tough to do, we may be able to trim some time off, but I don't think it would be significant. What we need to do is get a short and long form video from the same footage, that's going to the be trick.
