So I have pondered many times about the Blitz Brigade formation. And at first I was very excited for it, SCOUTING BATTLEWAGONS, WAAAAAGH!!!
But then, I realized it only has 2 true benefits.
1. Having slotless BWs so you can have other units in heavy support. like Lootas, mek guns, or walkers
2. Being able to redeploy/counter deploy to either confuse your enemey, avoid LOS from lascannons on turn 1, or redeploy to an objective.
Heres the thing with scouting battlewagons. If you scout, then you cant charge. So you can get all your tanks 12" forward, and if you go first you can move again, but guess what, you are just setting yourself up to get blown up and charged.
So after you make the full 12" forward scout move, like orks would want to do, you are stuck with a turn of sitting, or trying to hide somewhere so you dont get countered.
I have run battlewagons without the formation and usually have no trouble getting a turn 2 charge, and actually get to avoid some fire because of the distance involved.
Although if you fill all the wagons with boyz, and scout and move them all into your enemy deployment zone, then even when he does blow them up, they all just pile out and clog up his table half, which is funny in its own right.
EDIT: other theory is to take the Blitz Brigade Formation with the hoard formation, the 10xunits of boyz.
Scout the empty wagons up and make a wall in midfield putting them bumper to bumper. You now have a wall of AV12 that blocks LOS to your massive unit as they trundle up the board.
