I used Skarr in a couple of games yesterday. 25 attacks in one turn, 20 in the following. And when he died, he just came straight back and rejoined the fight. He's fantastic to use.

Does mini dragon trump the full sized dragons of the elves?

The elves dragons don't spit lightning, and I've seen elf dragons get shredded by the Lord Celestant and his mini dragon, so yes, they CAN trump that.

I've not been following AoS much, but do these guys really ride lightning? And Spit out mini dragons?
Actually, I'm surprised GW hasn't done it before...

Er..."lightning spitting minidragons" means that the Dracoth("mini dragon") spits lightning.
And yeah, the Dracoth spits lightning. Unlike some dragons in the game, the Dracoth chooses a point within 12" and then anything within an extremely small distance takes a number of Mortal Wounds.

Outside named characters, a Necronsphinx has the biggest damage chart in the game. It is also a flyer and if lucky, it can one shot practically anything off the table. Funny how the worst-army-in-every-edition TK have the model that puts bloodthirsters to shame easily.
Including named characters, Settra isn't doing very bad either. Settra + an army of basic skeleton warriors (3 units of 50 models for example) gives you basic troops who strike with 3 attacks each on a 2+ and wound on a 3+. That's a LOT of wounds.

That's a lot of wounds only if you can get the majority of them into combat. It's really hard to get the majority of a large unit into combat versus smaller units. Your 50 Skeleton block only has a 150 attack potential if all 50 are in combat range.
This game relies so heavily on what your opponent deploys. If you deployed Settra and 150 Skeletons, I'd just deploy extremely mobile fast cavalry with ranged weapons. Ellyrian Reavers led by a Highborn Prince on Steed should work fine. With 14" move and an extra 2D6" move in the shooting phase, you'll be hard pressed to get any models into combat for several turns. As the man says, the best way to win a fight is to not be there. Reavers are great at not being there.
The Necrosphinx IS definitely good, but again, per the core rules, your opponent should just keep deploying units until he thinks he can handle it. It's not like the Necrosphinx is unkillable. You just have to throw more than one or two units at it.

Or get it to charge across deadly terrain on a 1 its dead. This happened to me the other week as the sphinxs has to charge an enemy within 12" sucked for my plan but hey ho thats the way it goes.

You can also get the same number of attacks on 30 models, no need for 50. Whatevers though. This is not a conversation about who can win with what, this is about badass models. Settra has a great strategic synergy all around that greatly improves his whole army compared to other generals. A necronsphinx is a flyer with a huge damage table, way much more than any other monster and a badass model to boot. In a discussion about the most badass models, Tomb Kings are definitely in there.

I have been having a lot of success with the bastlidon with a priest in tow. Having a 2+ re-roll able that doesn't care about your rend is tough to get through. And the priest is small enough to hide behind the big guy.

I think people underestimate Leon leoncour. Your entire army is immune to battleshock by his existence.

- 10000+ pts
Imperial Knights- 5 Standard Knights / 3 Cerastus Knights
Officio Assassinorum - 4 Assassins
CSM - 500pts? Maybe? Its from the Officio Assassinorum box so I'm pretty sure its not enough to run in a CAD
Vampire Lords- I have no idea I bought it like two days before I left country and they're still in storage so I'll have to see when I get back.] |

The biggest badass in AoS is the Tomb Kings Carrion. It can auto-win any game against 2 or more models. Against other single model armies, it always get a draw.

The dude's not a wimp in any sense, and can still chunk out arcane bolts and +1 saves by the handful. 6x D3 mortal wounds hurts! Actually screw that, spam soul stealer for greater victory (against the right targets).
- Salvage
I thought you could only cast each spell once per turn? (e.g arcane bolt)
or was there something i missed?

You are correct. One copy of a given spell per Wizard per turn. Nagash can cast 8 spells, but he can only cast Arcane Bolt once per turn. AND, if it fails, he can't try again. Once means once.

I think the high elf prince on a dragon has a decent shot at the title. The dragon's breath weapon can be devastating, his attacks are pretty brutal too. But the real power it brings is in it's command benefit. You choose three other high elf heroes within 16" and they ALL get to use a command benefit listed on their warscroll! Even if they are all just princes, giving 3 highelf units a turn the ability to reroll all failed wounds is some serious potency added!

The high elf prince on dragon is looking like the hardest hitting non-named/special character in the game actually, although I haven't tossed them all into a spreadsheet. Comes out to almost 12 wounds expected against models with no save, a little under 7 expected against models with a 3+ save (not factoring in the breath weapon).
It's almost twice the expected damage output of a bloodthirster of incessant rage! Of course without the exploding heads...
Dark elf and high elf dragons get 3 fearsome jaw attacks (-2 rend and D6 damage) instead of 2 for zombie dragons and forest dragons, and the high elf prince weaponry is especially damaging too.
The necrosphynx huge -3 rend makes it #1 against anything with a 3+ save, at least among the models that I've checked and have stats that lend themselves to prediction.
Carnosaurs look like a disappointment - their statline goes south very quickly as they lose wounds, and they lack the mobility of the flying beasties to dictate their combats and/or hide from ranged weaponry effectively.
