Only issue is the dropping of failure to appear.... why even bother going then?

Wasn't it found that in Ferguson there'd be people lined up to show for a required appearance, they'd close the doors for the day (wrapping up or limited numbers or something) and ding people for 'failing to show'?

That definitely came up somewhere, and if that was Ferguson then I can see "look, y'all screwed up, so you don't get to use this anymore" being applied.

They do this in MANY cities in Texas.

Houston, for instance.

For most Traffic Tickets, you have to go to this other court FIRST (in order to ask for a fine reduction, etc.), only at this other court, you aren't asking for a fine reduction, you are asking for an actual court date to be set, at which you will argue for a reduction. But they close the doors at 3pm every day, and if you are outside waiting (and there is not enough room in the courtroom to seat you), then you don't get in to get your court date.

And, if you pay the ticket, you cannot then ask for a court date.

So, you have to show up every day, hoping to get into the court to ask for a Court Date, and if your deadline to pay the ticket passes, then you have a failure to appear and a warrant issued. All while you are trying to get into the damned court to have a court date set.

I lived in Houston for 15 years, got 3 speeding tickets in that time, one in Houston, two in the outlying suburbs, and never had this experience.

I got a court date on my ticket, which was an actual court date, in a court, with a time. I could show up and plead innocence or admit guilt or ask for deferred adjudication, whatever. OR, I could just call the number and pay the ticket. Twice I went, once I got the ticket dropped, the other time I just payed.

None of what you say matches my experience. I'm not saying you're a liar, but you do tell some pretty tall tales. How long has it been since you shot someone?

The ticket I received was a camera ticket at a light in the budding metropolis of Elgin. They just sent a bill.I am sure somewhere was info on how to show up for court but they would probably drop dead of shock if someone actually did.

Some traffic camera tickets you don't have to pay- but it varies. Depends on the company and the county/city.

Federal regulations permit 5 mph error at 50 mph according to the Wiki article. Feel free to search the referred website if it's interesting to you, http://www.ecfr.gov/cgi-bin/ECFR?page=browse.

A reference to tests as they pertain to practical effects: http://www.caranddriver.com/features/speedometer-scandal

In short, you're citing recommendations, not regulations and actual data.

And your siting a wikipidia page, and presumably this one, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Speedometer#Error, that does not give any citations, and is a wikipidia page, so, ye, I would take the universally accepted recommendations. All the major manufactures use them, so unless you are driving something really obscure your not going to be outside this.

Recommendations != real world performance. You are claiming that speedometers have X accuracy based on manufacturer recommendations. Those recommendations pertain to accuracy in the instrument itself. Tire inflation, tire diameter, wheel diameter, and tire condition also can impact error. Read the C&D report.

Your argument has the implication that speedometers are incapable of under-reporting actual speed. The Car and Driver describes a study indicating that this is not the case at all. In that study, over reporting was more common than under reporting, but both occurred.

I didn't say "incapable of under-reporting actual speed", I said in the EU they are and in the US it is <2% over. Please tell me how you can be 10% over, as you have claimed, preferably without the use of a semantic argument on the word recomendation?

Federal regulations stipulate that they "can," apparently. Whether or not they do, and how often, is an empirical question. No number of "recommendations" can answer an empirical question - you would have to test it.

I liked it better when this thread was about bad cops aren't going to be bad anymore and not a Wikipedia argument about speed-o-meters.

This forum needs topic-o-meters that tell you when you've moved too far away from the topic.

Perhaps a move back towards the original topic would be beneficial .
