Hey mates. With the release of the new Warhammer Fantasy AOS and all of the new rules, I am currently still debating on if I want to jump into it or not, as while I like a lot of what it has to offer, I am still cautious on all of the changes and how it applies to the tabletop. However, it gives me time to finish up my 40k Army building and painting wise, and while I do that, I have already taken liberty in looking and planning ahead for AOS and needless to say I am leaning towards running a Cavalry Based Army. At the moment, these are the 3x Races I am debating between:

* Bretonnia: Got an update at last lol, and from looking at them, they are a very solid army with access to a wide-variety of Knights with a lot of rules that support them on the charge. Questing Knights got a boost and are still great vs Monsters, Grail Knights look to be a solid choice, and the Peasantry also got a boost in some ways, the most noticeable being the Trebuchet, as that thing is just deadly. Obviously my first thought when I decided on doing a Cavalry Based Army, and it looks like Bretonnia Armies might make a comeback at last.

* Empire: Access to Reiksguard Knights, Knights of the White Wolf (Cavalry-Hammer Upgrade), regular Knights, and Demi-Gryphon Knights, All are solid choices and have a number of special Characters that can support them to make them better, particularly the Reiksguard. Another solid choice and not much different from Bretonnia in regards to there stats, however they still can form a strong list, and the Demi-Gryphon Knights are awesome in combat, and are amazing models as well.

* High Elves: Whole the Empire and the Bretonnia Knights Share a lot of similarities stat-wise, HE Silver Helms caught my eye for the better movement and bravery, and Dragon Princes also seem to be a very good choice to field an Elf Cavalry Army. While they don't have as many options as the Empire and Bretonnia, they still can form a solid Cavalry list supported by there elite infantry units and War-Machines, giving them some flexibility in that regard.

Aprreciate any help you guys can give me on this mates, as I am just starting to look at AOS seriously and see where it goes from here.

Speaking of High elves, also look at the Ellerian Reavers... They are pretty good with their 2d6 move before or after shooting.

That's true, however while Fast Cav has its uses from what I have heard it isn't as effective as it once was, and I have yet to see anyone really taking them. that being said, has anyone had experience running a Cavalry army yet in AOS? Would really appreciate the help you guys can offer.

You could do a very cool undead cav force. Evil forces are always cooler

Actually have considered doing a Mercenary themed army, however to start off I would like to collect one army, as it is still early and I am not sure if AOS will pick up at my store or not. Just looking to get one army for now and debating between these 3x at the moment.

I recommend if you do High Elves bringing the High Elf Prince on dragon, his command ability allows you to use 3 other command abilities. Very strong

I love the Ellyrean Reavers. They operate almost like fast Tau Empire Crisis Suits.

If there are no enemies within 3", they get 3 shots each with their Range 16" bows. They can move 14" and then move another 2d6" before or after shooting. Great unit for moving forward into 16" range, shooting and then retreating back out of range or out of line of sight. If played properly, you should get several free turns of shooting before you're forced into combat.

Or move 14", then move another 2d6 to get closer (to a warmachine, hero, etc.), shoot, then charge if needed. Huge amount of versatility with this unit.

well no point really, all the WHFB models you see will be replaced sooner or later, so starting one army is kinda meh because in the long run there will be newer armies, might as well pick the models you love the look of and work with them and then when new armies come out add them as merc units or something...
