The BRB (lol) is the 4 pages, there are special rules for each unit which can be found on their own warscrolls which are downloadable from the GW site.

No points in the four pages rules, its all about countering the opponent. Alternate deployment until one of you stops, It can trigger sudden death conditions.
The rules can be found along with all of the scrolls in this link

just click the main rules to get the PDF.

Well, you do have to convince your friend to play

....and lo!.....The Age of Sigmar came to an end when Saint Veetock and his hamster legions smote the false Sigmar and destroyed the bubbleverse and lead the true believers back to the Old World.

You sure can. You will most likely find that your friends won't play with you for long though. Poor sportsmanship does not a friendly game make.

You can. And how long is your friend going to want to keep playing?

Honestly, I've adopted the "playing a game based on wound count" setup. Agree on a number of wounds to play, you can't go above that amount.
Using a system like Milhaila set up, you can break down for better control by not allowing above 25% to be spent on Heroes, no more than 25% on monsters, 25% on war machines...you can create a point system of your own with ease.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

You actually don't have to spend anything to try it. If you just want the rules they are all free online, from the GW website.

Shameless plug here (sorry), but you might be interested in what we do, jonny5...

We have only one army left (Lizardmen), before having points set to each and every unit in the game so far, including their upgrades and special rules. And better yet, since GW is not behind this, we (the community) can alter the points cost if anything seems to cheap or expensive

Cheers!

Why not just keep playing 8th edition? It seems like that's what you're trying to do... carry forward a bunch of rules that GW specifically cut out.
