So I have been a long time Dark Eldar player and since allies have existed I have dabbled in Eldar to help fill the holes. With the emergence of the Battle Companies, resurgence of Ravenwing, and the all of the things out there, how good can Dark Reapers be?

Usually I would overlook them because of their cost. A powerfist costing T3 model with a 3+ Armor Save doesn't see worth it usually. However, add 8 points and you get a model that can shoot 2 Str. 5 AP 3 shots or 1 Str. 8 AP 3 shot at 48', ignoring Jinks, rerolling to Hit against Zooming Fliers, Swooping FMCs, Turbo Boosters, and things that go Flat Out! seems pretty good.

I have been running the Aspect formation and think these guys have a great place in any list running that Formation. They fill a great niche that other slots can fill, but cannot to the capacity of Dark Reapers. At BS 5 they hit very reliably and when facing anything that Jinks or MEQ they will shine. Even without any Jinkers on the field or MEQ, their pseudo Missile Launchers are still effective against vehicles or can hit up infantry with their multiple Str. 5 shots.

So I ask you guys, do you believe they are worth taking now with how the Meta is now?

I've run them before in an Aspect Host formation as well. They are not as good as Warp Spiders or Swooping Hawks, but they have a niche against certain opponents. I recommend 2 things for them:

1. Either give them a Wave Serpent transport or

2. Put them in an Imperial Bunker.

Otherwise, you may have to walk them onto the table.

You may see them make a comeback if Ravenwing becomes more common.

They're also your best weapon against other eldar for the same reasons.

Hope is the first step on the road to disappointment.

Dark Reapers are an excellent unit. Upgrade to Starshot missiles, make them part of an Aspect Host, anc camp them in cover (or even on an objective). They are capable of taking down all but the heaviest vehicles and MCs. Just make sure that you have another unit with melta or lance weapons for the really heavy stuff.

I agree with you on the bunker, because putting anything in a bunker that can shoot out and practically not be shot back is a great idea, but a wave serpent? Reapers have a 48 inch range (36 effective if you take the tempest launcher without a split fire mechanic). I've found that just plopping them in some ruins or in a building with an objective and letting them fire off a ton of shots is the way to go.

Any opponent worth their salt is going to take out the reapers as soon as they can. Cover can only help them so much.

A wave Serpent means they get wrecked as soon as your opponent has a chance to shoot them.

My advice is to use an Imperial Bunker, or a Raider as a transport. Raider is decent, giving mobility and an Av11 chassis to shoot first.

Reapers are fantastic against the Scars, Ravenwing and Scatbike spam that'll feature heavily for some time. They are also a good choice against Flyrants, and some flyer heavy lists. They actually do great damage against flyers due to ignoring jink.

Also, having an exarch fire a plasma obliterator is fun too.

Also useful vs wraithknights

Reapers are bad on paper, but in the current meta they punish many of the top tier units and lists quite hard, making them valuable.

can neither confirm nor deny I lost track of what I've got right now.

Does not matter, if you take the Nightshield upgrade, a Raider plus nightshield is still cheaper than a Wave Serpent, The Reapers can shoot out and the Raider can jink on a 3+ improving it's survivability and that of your Reapers.

I like them in venoms, personally. I don't see using more than one squad though.

If their raider jinks, doesn't affect their BS?

Right, 7e Jink has no effect on passengers. Also, passengers count as having moved if the transport moves 12"... which of course is no problem at all for Dark Reapers. So a venom can flit around the board 12" and jink every turn, and the embarked Dark Reapers can fire normally using any part of it's hull as LOS.

Dark Reapers have a niche as jink-busters, and can be very punishing against bikes (Windriders and White Scars get no save at all), Daemon Princes (Nurgle princes have to rely on their 5++), and light skimmers (Venoms and Raiders).

I feel like a Venom, Raider, or Serpent make an already expensive unit more expensive. Plus, with a Venom is 5 Reapers enough to make an impact? I was thinking of squads of 6 or 7 would be best. 4+ Exarch+ Venom is 245pts w/ Starshot Missiles, this seems like a very steep price to pay.

I see merit in the transports as I do this already with Fire Dragons and a Raider, but they are used more for Deepstriking than running around and shooting out of it.

If the transport moves more than 6", the passengers may only snap-fire. Doesn't matter if they are SnP or Relentless.
